James “J.R.” Russell Johnson

Mr. James “J.R.” Russell Johnson, 85, of East Brewton, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2013 after a brief illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Escambia County. He was a member of the East Brewton First Assembly of God Church; a graduate of W.S. Neal High School, where he played in the first Neal/Miller football game; a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict; former supervisor for H&H Logging Company; and retired custodian with the Escambia County Public School System.

He is survived by one son, Mike (Betty) Johnson of Brewton; three daughters, Becky (Daniel) Holland of Brewton, Pam (Chris) Rowe of Mobile and Wanda (David) Johnson of Greenville; two sisters, Carolyn Brock of Monroeville and Marilyn Howell of Okla.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the East Brewton First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Jeff Scurlock officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery of Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
