Monroe County sweeps TRM basketball Monday

On Monday, all three T.R. Miller basketball teams traveled to Monroeville to take on the Monroe County High School Tigers, and all three teams came back to Brewton with losses.
The B-team Tigers lost 38-18 to drop to 5-4 this season while the Lady Tigers lost 33-22 to fall to 3-13 overall.
In the varsity boys game, T.R. Miller suffered their seventh straight loss with a 70-60 defeat to fall to 4-10 this season. Monroe County’s boys were ranked No. 5 in class 4A in the latest basketball polls put out by the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA).
T.R. Miller’s team will host Cottage Hill in an area game Friday at 4:30 p.m. The game is T.R. Miller’s first home game of 2014 and first since Dec. 16.

MCHS 38, TRM B-team 18
After stunning Monroe County earlier in the season for their first win of the year, T.R. Miller’s B-team was on the other end of things Monday night as Monroe County cruised to a 20-point win, 38-18.
After a close first half, Monroe County opened things up in the second half on the Tigers of T.R. Miller to aid them to the win.
The two teams played to a 6-all tie in the first quarter, but Monroeville outscored T.R. Miller 12-7 in the second quarter to hold an 18-13 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Monroeville increased their lead to 28-17 heading into the fourth quarter as the used a 10-4 run in the quarter to hold the 11-point lead.
In the fourth quarter, T.R. Miller was held to only one point while Monroeville scored 10 of their own to get the 38-18 win.
Joshua Jolly led T.R. Miller with eight points. Ahmaud Taylor added four points while Markail Mitchell and Brooks Brown both chipped in three points each.

MCHS 33, TRM Lady Tigers 22
Trailing 21-20 after three quarters of play, T.R. Miller’s Lady Tigers were outscored 12-2 in the final quarter to take a 33-22 loss.
Destiny Washington and Mekiah Williams both scored six points and Akilah Brazile had five points. Ivory Johnson added three points while Steely Ruzic finished with two points.
In the game Monday, Monroe County led T.R. Miller 9-6 after one quarter and 15-11 at the half. The Lady Tigers of T.R. Miller rallied in the third quarter with a 9-6 scoring advantage to cut Monroe County’s lead to 21-20 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller went cold on offense while Monroe County got hot and outscored T.R. Miller 12-2 to seal the win by 11 points.

MCHS 70, TRM varsity Tigers 60
Chardian Johnson’s 22 points were not enough for the varsity Tigers of T.R. Miller against No. 5 Monroe County as T.R. Miller was handed their seventh straight loss with a 70-60 defeat.
The two sets of Tigers played a close first half against each other as Monroe County led 15-14 after one quarter of play and 32-29 at the half after holding a 17-15 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Monroe County edged out T.R. Miller 19-14 to increase their led to 51-43 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Monroe County once again edged T.R. Miller by two points to get the win by 10 points.
Along with Johnson’s 22 points, Trae Walker and Michael Woods both poured in 10 points each. Jalen Jones added eight points, Dominique Jackson and Caden Lodge both had four points each while Trin Miller finished with two points.
