State Rep. Alan Baker, R-Brewton, joined a group of bipartisan lawmakers Wednesday to serve food at a homeless mission in Montgomery.

“We pass budgets that’s what we are working on this week in the legislature. We have to allocate funds and we know there are programs to help citizens and we are hoping by doing this program today we can send a message that there are people in our state that want to help others in need,” Democratic State Rep. Charles Newton told WSFA in Montgomery.

Lawmakers served food at the Friendship Mission and heard testimonies from some of those who have been helped by the organization.

The Alabama Legislature opened its session Tuesday.
