Cottage Hill takes down TRM girls and boys, TRM B-team wins

T.R. Miller’s B-team was the lone team from Brewton to pick up a win over Cottage Hill Friday night in Brewton.
The B-team Tigers earned a 41-37 win to improve to 6-4 this season. The Lady Tigers lost 53-31 to drop to 3-14 overall and to 1-4 in area play.
The varsity Tigers lost 66-51 to drop their eighth straight game. With the loss, T.R. Miller’s record fell to 4-11 overall to and 1-4 in area play.
All three T.R. Miller teams were scheduled to play their final area game of the season Tuesday night at home against Bayside Academy.
T.R. Miller’s next game is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 27 at home against Andalusia.

TRM B-team 41, CHCA 37
The T.R. Miller Tiger B-team held off a late Cottage Hill rally Friday night to pick up a 41-37 victory over the Warriors.
The Tigers of T.R. Miller led Cottage Hill 7-3 after one quarter of play and 24-12 at the halftime break following a 17-9 run in the second quarter.
Leading by as many as 14 points at one point in the third quarter, the Tigers were outscored 14-7 in the third quarter to see their lead vanish to only a 31-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Cottage Hill cut T.R. Miller’s lead to 33-31 with 4:47 left in the game.
From that point on, the Tigers outscored the Warriors 8-6 and connected for 4-for-11 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win by four points.
T.R. Miller went 9-for-30 from the free throw line in the win while Cottage Hill was 13-for-20.
Joshua Jolly led the Tigers with 13 points. Austin Holmes and Markail Mitchell both finished with seven points each while Ahmaud Taylor added six points. Hayden Atkinson finished with five points, Michael Campbell added two points and Brooks Brown chipped in one point.

CHCA 53, TRM Lady Tigers 31
A 10-0 run for Cottage Hill over the first and second quarters and a 13-3 scoring advantage in the third quarter spelled a 53-31 area loss for the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers Friday night at home.
In the first quarter, T.R. Miller led 9-4 at the 3:56 mark and 11-9 at the 1:07 mark and that would be the last leads of the game for the Lady Tigers.
Leading by two points late in the first quarter, Cottage Hill used a 7-0 run to end the quarter with a 14-11 advantage.
Cottage Hill continued their run and increased it to 10-0 as they built a 19-11 lead with 4:14 left before the half. Cottage Hill outscored T.R. Miller 7-4 in the quarter to hold a 21-15 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Cottage Hill held a 13-3 scoring advantage to build a 34-18 lead over the Lady Tigers heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller was outscored 19-13 to take the loss by 22 points.
Mekiah Williams led T.R. Miller in the loss with 12 points and Steely Ruzic added nine. Star Drakeford finished with six points while Akilah Brazile added four.
The Lady Tigers and Lady Warriors both shot 8-for-14 from the free throw line.

CHCA 66, TRM varsity boys 51
The Cottage Hill Christian Academy varsity boys sank 10 3-pointers against T.R. Miller run Friday night and used runs of 14-0 and 10-0 to keep T.R. Miller’s losing streak alive and run it to eight straight with a 66-51 win.
Both schools came out firing in the first quarter as they combined for 37 points with Cottage Hill holding a 21-16 lead at quarters end. T.R. Miller led 16-15 with 1:43 left in the quarter before being outscored 6-0 to end the quarter.
In the second quarter, Cottage Hill increased their run to 14-0 to take a 29-16 lead at the 3:36 mark. The Warriors would go on and hold a 31-23 lead the half.
In the third quarter, it was T.R. Miller’s time to make a run of their own as they started the quarter on a 8-0 run to tie the game at 31-all with 5:54 left in the quarter.
No more than the Tigers tied the game, Cottage Hill went on a 10-0 run to grab a 41-31 with 3:51 left in the quarter.
Cottage Hill would outscore T.R. Miller 19-17 in the quarter to hold a 50-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Cottage Hill ended the game on a 16-11 run to seal the win by 15 points.
The Tigers were 13-for-19 from the free throw line while Cottage Hill shot 10-for-20.
Leading the way for the Tigers in the loss was Chardian Johnson with 19 points and Kellyn Winn with 12 points.
Trae Walker added nine points while Caden Lodge had five. Michael Woods, Shawn Tolbert and Jalen Jones all had two points each for T.R. Miller.
