Ice remains the biggest worry from the winter storm as freezing rain has begun falling in the area.

“Ice accumulations are still expected for Escambia County followed by a mixture of snow and sleet,” Escambia County Emergency Management Director David Adams said Tuesday afternoon.

Ice accumulation could be .3 inches today in Escambia County. Snow accumulation could be 1.5 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

He urged residents to limit travel.

“Driving will become more difficult as the day passes,” he said. “No road closures are reported in Escambia County at this time, however, Clarke, Choctaw, and Washington Counties are reporting some road closures and many more roads and bridges that are showing icing conditions.  These conditions are moving toward our area from the west.”

Conecuh County will be closing its roads at 5 p.m.

“Please be aware of deteriorating conditions and limit travel to essential functions only,” Adams said. “Bridges will ice over faster than the road surface, so be extra cautious on bridges.”
