The Andalusia Star-News has reported this morning that Opp City Schools Superintendent Michael Smithart announced Friday morning that Brent Hill is the Bobcats’ new head football coach. Hill comes to Opp from Collierville, Tenn., right near Memphis.
Hill comes from St. George’s school, where he served as athletic director and head coach.
“This a great day for us,” Smithart said on WOPP.
In two seasons as head coach, Hill posted a 22-5 record including the 2011 Class AA Division 2 Tennessee state championship.
The Bobcats will start the 2014 football season at Luverne on Friday August 22nd.
Additionally, the new Bobcats coach will also serve as the high school’s athletic director, Smithart said.
Hill will replace former Opp head coach and T.R. Miller assistant coach Jack Whigham who was let go of his duties in November.
Whigham was the head coach for the Bobcats since 2006. Whigham compiled an overall record of 40-46 record.
Whigham, an OHS graduate, spent a number of years as an assistant at T.R. Miller under Jamie Riggs before taking the helm of the Bobcats’ team and the school’s athletic programs.
