Facing off against each other for the fourth time this season Friday afternoon in the area tournament at Cottage Hill, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers edged out W.S. Neal’s Lady Eagles 25-19.
In the game Friday, W.S. Neal won the first half of the game while T.R. Miller won the second half and eventually took the game.
The Lady Eagles outscored T.R. Miller 8-6 in the first quarter and outscored T.R. Miller 3-2 in the second quarter to lead 11-8 at halftime.
Down by three at the half, the Lady Tigers used a 10-6 run in the third quarter to grab an 18-17 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
In the final quarter, T.R. Miller held W.S. Neal to two points while pouring in seven of their own to get the six-point win.
Mekiah Williams led the Lady Tigers in the win with 10 points and Morgan Longmire added eight points. Star Drakeford chipped in four points and Steely Ruzic added three.
For W.S. Neal, KeKe Floyd led with six points and Khadijah Barton chipped in five points. Jasmine Crook added four points while Mariah Davis and Alyssa English both added two points each in the loss.
W.S. Neal had won two of the previous three meetings during the season with T.R. Miller’s lone win coming in the Escambia County Tournament in Flomaton. The Lady Eagles of East Brewton defeated T.R. Miller twice in the two regular season area match ups.
With the win for T.R. Miller, the Lady Tigers improved to 5-17 overall while W.S. Neal finished their season with a 5-17 record.
Also with the win, T.R. Miller advanced to Monday’s area championship game against Cottage Hill. The win over W.S. Neal Friday also qualified T.R. Miller for play in the sub-region round of the playoffs Thursday.
If T.R. Miller won Monday’s championship game, they would host the sub-region game while a loss would put them having to travel.
