Jones County sweeps JDCC baseball

In their first two games of five total in the state of Mississippi, the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team was swept by Jones County Junior College Saturday.
JDCC lost game one 5-1 and took a 9-1 loss in the second game to fall to 2-5 overall.
In game one, JDCC was held to only two hits as they took the four-run loss.
Tanner Zant and Cameron Davis had the lone hits for JDCC. Davis’ had double and one RBI in the loss.
JDCC’s lone run came in the eighth inning while Jones plated one run in the first, fourth and seventh innings and added two in the sixth.
Trey Marshall, Roman Donofro, Brandon Davis and Scott Robertson all pitched for JDCC in the loss. JDCC’s pitchers combined to go eight innings and allowed 10 hits, five earned runs, and walked three.
In game two, JDCC was once again held to one run while Jones plated nine runs to get a 9-1 win.
JDCC’s lone run came in the sixth inning while Jones added two in the third, five in the fourth and two more in the sixth to get the eight-run win.
At the plate for JDCC, Craig Headley, Greg Giangiotto, Cameron Davis and Brandon Davis all had hits. Cameron Davis went 2-for-4 while Brandon Davis was 1-for-2 with one RBI and a double. Cameron Davis added a double in the loss as well.
On the mound, Garrett Davis, Nick Helton and Tyler Henry combined to go six innings and allowed nine hits, nine runs, seven earned, walked two and struck out three.
The Warhawks were scheduled to play at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday in a nine-inning game and will play at East Central Friday.
JDCC will begin conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 25, when they travel to Faulkner State. The Warhawks will return home on Saturday, March 1, when they host Bishop State. Game time is set for noon in Brewton and will be a conference doubleheader.
