TRM baseball pounds Atmore to open season while JV ties

Both T.R. Miller’s JV and varsity baseball teams opened up their 2014 season Monday night in Atmore and the JV team tied while the varsity Tigers picked up a big win.
In varsity action Monday night, T.R. Miller defeated Escambia County 21-4 in five innings. In JV action, the Tigers and Blue Devils played to a 3-3 tie.
T.R. Miller’s varsity baseball team will be back in action at home Thursday, Friday and Saturday when they play in the 2014 Escambia County tournament.

TRM varsity 21, ECHS 4
T.R. Miller (1-0) scored 14 runs in the third inning and had three pitchers combine to pitch a one-hitter in their 2014 season opener Monday as the Tigers roared to a 21-4 win over Atmore.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, T.R. Miller scored two runs in the second, 14 in the third, and five in the fourth inning to build a 21-0 lead. Atmore scored all their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but T.R. Miller took the 17-run win in five innings.
Kyle Davis got the start on the mound and the win as he went two innings struck out six while walking three.
Tripp Floyd pitched two innings and struck out three while walking one. Zac Griffin went the final inning and allowed four runs, one earned, one hit, and walked one.
At the plate for the Tigers, Jones Manning had three hits and two RBIs and scored one run while Hunter Brittain had a homerun, three RBIs and scored two runs.
Drew Williamson added three hits, two RBIs and scored four runs while Griffin had four hits, scored four runs and had one RBI.
Dominique Jackson added two hits, two runs and three RBIs.
Caden Lodge had three hits, three RBIs and scored a run while Ryann Gray had two hits, two RBIs and one run.

TRM JV 3, ECHS 3
The T.R. Miller JV team (0-0-1) picked up a 3-3 tie with Escambia County of Atmore Monday.
In the tie for the JV Tigers, ECHS took a 3-0 lead over T.R. Miller after three innings as the Blue Devils scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third.
From there, T.R. Miller added one in the fourth and two in the fifth to tie the game.
T.R. Miller’s run in the fourth came on an Austin Holmes’ single that scored Joshua Winton.
In the fifth, the Tigers had three hits with two runs coming on a Russell Smith field’s choice that scored Holmes and Jake Najor.
The Tigers used five pitchers in the tie with Holmes, Smith, Stokes Jennings, Winton and Caleb Winton pitching.
At the plate, Najor, Holmes and Jordan Williams all had hits with Smith having two RBIs and Joshua Winton having one.
The JV team will be back in action Monday, March 3, at home against Escambia County. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
