Mrs. Gladys Maxine Moye Andrews

East Brewton

 

Mrs. Gladys Maxine Moye Andrews, 79, of Florida Street, East Brewton, died Wed., Feb. 19, 2014, in a Crestview, Fla. nursing facility, after a brief illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Escambia County, Ala., and a member of the East Brewton first Baptist Church. She was a retired draw twist operator from Monsanto with 28 years of service.

She is survived by three daughters, Judy (Dale) Carter of Headland, Ala., Sandy (Rob) Highlander of Baker, Fla. and Vickie (Johnny) Faircloth of East Brewton; six grandchildren, April Ingram, Rodney Carter, Will Carter, Olivia Carter, Hunter DuBose and A.J. Faircloth; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Fri., Feb. 21, at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton.

Funeral services were scheduled for Fri., Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Watts officiating. Interment followed in Travelers Rest Cemetery in Flomaton, Ala. with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Mr. R.J. Cook

Damascus

 

Mr. R.J. Cook, 80, of Damascus Road, of the Damascus Community died Wed., Feb. 19, 2014, at his residence.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton and was a member of Douglas Chapel Methodist Church. He attended Damascus Feeder School before entering W.S. Neal School where he graduated in 1952. He was a retired electrician from Exxon with 25-plus years of service and was also a cattleman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Andrews Cook.

He is survived by one son, Jerry (Tracey) Cook of Brewton; one daughter, Sherry (Greg) Wiggins of Brewton; one brother in law, Buck Andrews of Brewton; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Visitation was held Sat., Feb. 22, at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.

Funeral services were scheduled for Sat., Feb. 22, 2014, at noon, at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. George Weaver and the Rev. Thomas White officiating. Interment will follow in Damascus Cemetery, Damascus Community of Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Mrs. Minnie Joyce Bell Benson

Brewton

 

Mrs. Minnie Joyce bell Benson, 78, of Glen Road, Brewton, died on Sat., Feb. 22, 2014, at her residence after a brief illness.

She was a native of the Wallace Community, a former resident of Flomaton and a longtime resident of Brewton. She was a member of the Brewton community of Christ church, a retired bookkeeper and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, John Benson of Brewton; six sons, Sam (Mary) Fountain of Mobile, Ken (Nickie) Fountain of Florence, Ala., Rick (Ellen) Benson of Gainesville, Fla., Greg (Mary) Benson of Houma, La., Rob Benson of Houma, La., and Lance (Cheryl) Benson of Houma, La.; one daughter, Debra Daniels Woodcock of south Carolina; three sisters, Helen Bell Carty of Mobile, Gillery Bell (Richard) Skeets of Biloxi, Miss., and Peggy Bell Clements of Mobile; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Fri., Feb. 28, 2014, from noon until 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton. Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m. at Green Acres Cemetery with Elder Wayne Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in green Acres Cemetery, Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Mrs. Tara Valinda Ferguson Moore

Flomaton

 

Mrs. Tara Valinda Ferguson Moore, 40, of Old Hwy 31, Flomaton, died Sat., Feb. 22, 2014.

She was a native of Metarie, La., and a long time resident of Escambia County. She was a member of the Flomaton First Baptist Church, a 1991 graduate of T.R. Miller High School, a LPN, a former employee of Weaver’s Clothing Store, and a substitute teacher for the Escambia County Alabama School System.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ben Ferguson.

She is survived by her mother, Beverly Ferguson of Brewton; her husband, Fed Moore of Flomaton; two sons, Tripp Bates Moore, III and Jonathan Ben Moore, both of Flomaton; two brothers, Eric (Abigail) Ferguson of Cleveland, Tenn. and Kyle (Sara) Ferguson of Thomasville, Ala.; father and mother in law, Fred and Betty Moore of Bratt, Fla.

Visitation will be held today, Feb. 26, from noon until 2 p.m. at Brewton First Baptist Church.

Memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. at Brewton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dustin Stockstill and the Rev. Jack Fitts officiating, and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Mrs. Vernita Low Williams Owens

Brewton

 

Mrs. Vernita Low Williams Owens, 85 of Pine Street, Brewton, died on Mon., Feb. 24, 2014, in a local nursing facility after a brief illness.

She was a native of Cordele, Ga., a former resident of Pitts, Ga., and a longtime resident of Brewton. She attended Potter House United Pentecostal Church and was a former employee of Beco and a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Jimmy (Judy) Owens of East Brewton; one daughter, Brenda Sue (Robert) Self of Scyamore, Ga.; seven grandchildren, James Owens, Timothy Owens, Tabitha Purnell, Melanie Musselwhite, Melissa May, Tyler Self, Ashley Self; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thurs., Feb. 27, from 4 until 6 p.m., at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton.

Graveside services are scheduled for Fri., Feb. 28, at 3 p.m. (Georgia time) at Pitts Cemetery in Pitts Ga., located in Wilcox County, Ga., with the Rev. Carlton Webb officiating. Interment will follow in Pitts Cemetery, Pitts, Ga. with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Mr. Herbert Mason Mantel

Brewton

 

Mr. Herbert Mason Mantel, 82, of Ridge Road, Brewton, died on Mon., Feb. 24, 2014, at his residence after a brief illness.

He was a native of Brewton, a former resident of Rockdell, Texas, before moving back to Brewton 21 years ago. He was a member of the Cedar Hill Methodist Church. He attended W.S. Neal High School and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a retired crane operator from Alcoa Aluminum.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mildred Burnham Mantel of Brewton; three daughters, Carol (James) Barnett of Rockdell, Texas, Virginia (Rodney) Stevens of Rockdell, Texas, and Debbie Knoblock of Rockdell, Texas; three sisters, Evelyn (Perry) Legg of Huntsville, Ala., Martha Nell Updike of East Brewton and Mary Kate Browder of Brewton; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date and time, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton in charge of arrangements.

 

Mr. Justin Lovelace

Brewton

 

Mr. Justin Lovelace, 29, died on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.

He attended schools in Brewton and Decatur, Ga. He had a great compassion for sports and was a great football player and excelled at baseball. After completing high school he became an electrician and later became a fire alarm technician.

He is survived by his parents, Tony and Carmen Lovelace; his daughter, Zoey Lovelace; four uncles, Derrick Hartley of Oakland, Calif., Terrance (Lisa) Hartley of Lathrop, Calif., David (Linda) Lovelace of Brewton and Johnny Lovelace of Brewton; one aunt, Kimberly Ann Cheatham of Sacramento, Calif.; four great aunts, Shirley (Bert) Barton and Jacqueline (Rufus) Thames both of Brewton, Ms. Maxine Arrington of Duluth, Ga. and Mrs. Viola Sutton of Brewton; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sat., Feb. 22, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Zion Fountain AME Zion Church with Elder H.K. Matthews, officiating. Interment followed at Second Shady Grove Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

 

Mr. Henry Lee Samuel

Castleberry

 

Mr. Henry Lee Samuel, 76, of Castleberry died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014.

He was educated in the public school system of Conecuh County and was a member of Sandy Grove Baptist Church in Castleberry.

He is survived by his children, Agatha (Harry) Cecil, Henry Lee Samuel, both of Brewton, Sandra L. Samuel, Clarice Williams, both of Monticello, NY, Michael Earl Samuel of Harvey, La. and Kathy (James) Rush of Pensacola; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Calvin (Sara) Samuel; four sisters, Myrtle (Felix) Nettles, Pearl Section, Mary (Larry) Fluker and Meter Jackson, all of Evergreen; one special aunt, Mrs. Annie L. Williams of Evergreen; four uncles, Arnold Williams of Omaha, Neb., Frank (Marie) Williams, Artis (Clidy) Williams, both of Evergreen and Robert Williams of Pensacola; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held on Mon., Feb. 24, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at Missionary Baptist Church of Castleberry with Pastor Duran Odoms officiating. Interment followed in Sandy Grove Cemetery in Castleberry with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

 

Mrs. Bobbie Jean Brown Robinson

Brewton

 

Mrs. Bobbie Jean Brown Robinson, 81, of Hwy 29, Brewton died Tues., Feb. 18, 2014, at her residence after an extended illness.

She was a native of Skinnerton and longtime resident of the Lone Star community before moving to Brewton nine months ago. She was a retired secretary with the Beatrice Elementary School and was a member of the Lone Star Community of Christ Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Bruno Robinson.

She is survived by three sons, Wayne (Cathy) Robinson of Burnt Corn; Bobby (Belinda) Robinson of Lone Star; Joshua (Miranda) Robinson of Lone Star; two daughters, Kathy A. Long of Brewton; Karen Bryant of Hope Hull; one brother, Joe Brown of Lone Star; six grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thurs., Feb. 20, at Craver’s Funeral Home.

Funeral services were scheduled for Fri., Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Lone Star Community of Christ Church with Pastor Mildred Brown officiating. Interment followed in the Lone Star Cemetery with Craver’s Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

Pallbearers were Lavon Merrils, Dennis Coker, Shine Pipkins, John Creighton, Wesley Acreman, Justin Chandler, Austin Chandler and Jared Hudson.

 

Mr. Herman Eugene “Gene” Hutchcraft

Brewton

 

Mr. Herman Eugene “Gene” Hutchcraft, 77, died on Fri., Feb. 21, 2014 in a local hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Brewton and served as a bailiff with the Escambia County Alabama Sheriff’s Department. He was also a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Watson and Lecia Mae Chavers Hutchcraft; his wife, Betty Hutchcraft; a brother, Clinton Ray Hutchcraft; a son, Eric Hutchcraft; and a grandson, Lane Hutchcraft.

He is survived by two sons, Herman Hutchcraft II of Brewton and Joey (Kristy) Hutchcraft of Brewton; two daughters, Tina (Joe) Mashburn of Prattville, Ala. and Dee Dee Graves of Brewton; one sister, Linda Hutchcraft of Brewton; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Visitation was held on Monday, Feb. 24, at Craver’s Funeral Home.

Funeral services were scheduled for Tues., Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. at St. Maurice Catholic Church with Father Adrian Cook officiating. Interment followed in Beulah Cemetery of Brewton with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were the members of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
