Mr. Lacy Thomas Wilkerson, Sr.

Flomaton

Mr. Lacy Thomas Wilkerson, Sr., 78, of Flomaton died on Monday, Feb. 2, 2014.

He was born on October 16, 1935 and grew up on a tobacco farm in Roxboro, N.C.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1954 at the age of 18 and served until June of 1958. He then went to work for Hoods Floor Covering until Nov. 1959 and moved from Milton, Fla. to Pollard. He began to work with Rebel Oil Co. in Jan. of 1960. He also worked in Flomaton, Century, Mobile and Montgomery until 1965 when he joined the East Brewton Police Department until 1967. He worked for the Escambia Conecuh Wild Life Association from 1967 to 1969 as a game warden. In 1969 he joined the Escambia County, Ala. Sheriff’s Department and served until 1982. He also was a charter member of the Flomaton Rescue Squad and was elected Captain which he held from 1973 until 1988. He worked with Fore-Dixie Development from 1982 until 1990 upon which time he joined the Flomaton Police Department as a Lieutenant and after two years, he was promoted to Chief of Police and served in that position for four years until 1996 when he retired. After retirement he worked off and on as Court House Security until 2008 and served with the Alabama National Guard for six years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Vera Odom Wilkerson; a daughter, Theresa Gail Wilkerson; his parents, Lacy Carr and Mattie O’Briant Wilkerson; a brother, William Reid Wilkerson.

He is survived by two sons, Lacy Thomas (Tammy) Wilkerson, Jr. of Pollard and Donald Ray Wilkerson of Flomaton; a daughter, Wanda Jean (Sammy) Emmons of Brewton; a granddaughter, Brandy Nicole (Matt) Ray of Flomaton; a great grandson, Rhoan Ray; a brother, Bernard Wayne (Vivian) Wilkerson of Roxboro, N.C.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Pollard United Methodist church with the Rev. Frank Scott and the Rev. Floyd B. Dyal officiating. Interment followed in the Pollard Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.

Serving as pallbearers were Larry Hammonds, John Powers, Willie Benjamin, Mike Lambert, Monte McGougin, and David Clark.

 

Mrs. B. Vonette Boutwell Crawley,

East Brewton 

Mrs. B. Vonette “Bonnie” Boutwell Crawley, 85, of East Brewton died on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at her residence.

She was a native of Flomaton and a member of the Brewton community for the past thirteen years coming from Century, Fla. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church of East Brewton and a former member of Little Escambia Baptist Church of Flomaton.

She is preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Crawley; one son, Donald Crawley; two brothers, Robert Boutwell and her twin, Dewitt Boutwell; sisters, Lula Dole, Tennie Johnson, Jean Ross, Agaline Hendrix, Essie Calloway, Dessie Mauldin and Doris Tarpley.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jean (Mike) Goolsby of East Brewton; sister in laws, Marilyn Boutwell of Va., Betty (Oria) Stuckey of Byrneville, Fla.; a brother in law, Bill (Hazel) Crawley of Century, Fla.; five grandchildren, Missi (Harrison) Smith of central S.C., Brad Crawley and Carolyn Antoniono of Simpsonville, S.C., Scott (Amber) Goolsby and Ashley (Danny) McInnish of Auburn, Ala.; five  great grandchildren, Courtney and Allison Smith, Collin and Mary Carlton McInnish, and Gracey Lynn Goolsby; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Mar. 1, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Mar. 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Watts officiating. Interment followed in Flomaton Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.

Serving as pallbearers were Mike Goolsby, Brad Crawley, Scott Goolsby, Harrison Smith, Danny McInnish and Collin McInnish.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Crawley’s nephews.

 

Fredrick Wayne Salter

Lenox

Mr. Fredrick Wayne Salter, 67, of Lenox died on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at his residence.

 

He was a native of Greenville and lived most of his life in Lenox. He was a navy veteran and served in Vietnam. He was a member of Community of Christ Church in Evergreen, where he served as high priest.

 

He is survived by his mother, Ethel Stuckey of Pine Orchard, Ala.; his wife, alice Salter of Lenox; two sons, Anthony Salter of Mexia and Tim Salter of Brewton; two daughters, Terri Murph of Excel and Sherri Cooper of Lenox; one sister, Wanda Burke of Pine Orchard, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Marissa Salter, Cy Murph, Ty Morph, Katelin Salter, Courtland Salter, Bransen Cooper, Bailey Cooper and Addison Cooper.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville, Alabama.
