Isacson run set for March 29, sponsorships still needed

Everyone knows that life can sometimes play us a very sad song, and no one knows that better than the family of Luke Isacson.
Isacson, an 18-year-old senior and band member at T.R. Miller, was recently diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymph nodes.
His sister, Emily, is maintaining a Facebook page called “Pray for Luke” to keep the community informed on her younger brother’s journey.
She said that community support for her family has been overwhelming. And that support has been greatly needed as the family travels back and forth for Isacson’s treatment at Children’s Hospital. Doctors predict that his treatment course will be “about 27 months,” she said.
“We have had such an outpouring of support from our friends and family,” Emily said. “We are eternally grateful for the prayers, gifts, visits and posts from everyone. I have had several people request for us to open an account for Luke at a local bank for those who are having fund-raisers. We have opened one at Bank of Brewton. We appreciate so much living in such a compassionate community. Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts! We feel very loved!”
Over the months, it’s been touch-and-go for the teen, and shortly after his diagnosis, he developed pulmonary embolisms in both lungs.
“We came to Birmingham (on Feb. 25) for five days of daily chemo,” his mom Michelle said. “Luke still gets out of breath just trying to make it from the car inside the hospital. We just pray for a successful trip. We’re trusting the Almighty for healing!”
To help the family with the financial obligations, a score of fundraisers were organized. The first, a womanless beauty pageant, was held on Feb. 25. The second, a 3K, will be held on Sat., March 29.
Registration is open until March 28. The cost is $20 for adults; $10 for students. Adults wishing to purchase a T-shirt can register for $15. One must register by March 14 to have a shirt on event day. All others will be ordered in a second order after the walk.
Please make checks payable to: Michelle Parker Isacson for Luke Isacson.
For a registration form, contact Lynn Stallworth at 251.212.0028 or Amber Wilson at 251.238.3400.
To make that walk a success, the Walk for Luke committee is searching for local businesses and groups to be sponsors. Sponsors will be featured on the back of the walk shirt and listed and thanked when possible.
Sponsor levels include:
• platinum, $1,000;
• gold, $500;
• silver, $250; and,
• bronze, $100.
To be a sponsor, contact Tracey Lewis at 251.363.7133 or Racheal Wagner at 251.359.1188.
