WSNMS baseball splits with Opp

After having to wait a couple extra days to play due to rain in the area Tuesday, the W.S. Neal Middle School baseball team hosted Opp Thursday and came away with a split.
The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season in game one as they lost 6-3 to the Bobcats. In game two, W.S. Neal won 13-5 to improve to 7-1 this season.
In game one, with the game tied 3-all after five innings, Opp scored three runs in the seventh inning to get the 6-3 win.
Matt Hutchins and Westin Riddle pitched in the loss with Riddle being the pitcher of record. The duo combined to go seven innings and allowed seven hits, struck out seven, walked two and allowed three earned runs.
At the plate, P.J. Lovelace had two hits and one RBI while Jacobey Hawthorne, Connor Huskey, Hutchins, Riddle and Kristian Taylor all had one hit each. Huskey and Hutchins had one RBI each.
In game two, W.S. Neal scored six runs in the first inning to help preserve the split and get the eight-run win.
Huskey earned the win on the mound as he allowed three runs, two hits, struck out three and walked two in three innings. Hawthorne and Taylor also pitched in the win.
At the plate, Huskey had two hits, one double, and two RBIs while Hutchins had two hits and three RBIs.
Lovelace added two hits and two RBIs while Hunter Revel had two hits and two RBIs. Hawthorne, Taylor, Morgan Riley and Bradley Lowery all had one hit each with Taylor’s hit being a double.
