WSNMS baseball goes 2-1 Saturday in Excel

The W.S. Neal Middle School baseball team traveled to Excel Saturday for a tournament and returned home to East Brewton with a 2-1 record.
The Eagles defeated Opp 9-2 and Flomaton 12-1, but lost to host Excel 5-4. The 2-1 tourney record pushed W.S. Neal’s overall record to 9-2 this season.

WSNMS 9, Opp 2
With the game tied at 1-1 after the top of the second inning, W.S. Neal plated five runs in the second inning to push them to a 9-2 win over the Opp Bobcats.
Opp’s other lone run came in the third inning while W.S. Neal added three in the fourth to get the win.
Matt Hutchins earned the pitching win as he went five innings and allowed two runs, two hits, walked two and struck out five while allowing one earned run.
At the plate Jacoby Hawthorne had two hits and two RBIs and scored two runs while Kristian Taylor had two hits, two RBIs and scored three runs. Hutchins had two hits and two RBIs and scored one run while Connor Huskey had one hit, one RBI and scored one run.

WSNMS 12, Flomaton 1
Hawthorne pitched a no-hitter to propel W.S. Neal to a 12-1 win over Flomaton in their second game Saturday.
Hawthorne went five innings and allowed one earned run, no hits, walked three and struck out five.
At the plate, Hawthorne had three hits, one triple, three RBIs and scored two runs while Taylor had one hit, two RBIs and score two runs. Huskey added one hit, one run, and two RBIs while Hutchins had one hit and two RBIs.
Aaron Bosarge, P.J. Lovelace and Westin Riddle all had one hit each in the win.
Flomaton’s lone run came in the first inning while W.S. Neal scored two in the first, five in the second, three in the third and two more in the fourth.

Excel 5, WSNMS 4
With the game tied at 3-all after five innings, Excel outscored W.S. Neal 2-1 in the sixth inning to hand the Eagles their lone loss of the day with a 5-4 loss.
Huskey took the loss as he pitched six innings and allowed five runs, two earned, walked two, struck out two and allowed five hits.
Taylor had one hit, one RBI and scored one run while Huskey had a double, two RBIs and scored two runs. Hutchins had a double and one RBI while Hawthorne scored one run.
