WSN baseball sweeps area contest at CH Friday

W.S. Neal’s No. 7-ranked baseball team continued their recent winning streak Friday as they swept Cottage Hill to win their first area series.
The Eagles of East Brewton took game one 6-2 and game two 19-4 to improve to 11-1 overall this season and to 2-0 in area play with their sixth straight win.
In game one, W.S. Neal pitcher Tyler Joyner went a complete game seven innings and allowed seven hit, no earned runs, walked three and struck out 14 in the four-run win.
Joyner held Cottage Hill to one run each in the fourth and sixth innings while W.S. Neal plated two runs each in the first and third innings and one each in the fifth and sixth.
At the plate for the Eagles, Taylor Elliott had a single and two RBIs while Joyner had a hit and one RBI. Jared Cooper added two hits, Mike Williams had one and Dalton Shell had one with one RBI.
In game two, W.S. Neal pounded the Warriors 19-4.
W.S. Neal held Cottage Hill to two runs in the second inning and one each in the third and fifth while scoring five of their own in the second, two in the third, nine in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Lane Chavers and Colton Morris pitched in the win for the Eagles.
At the plate, Malcolm Hawthorne had a single and two RBIs, Derrick Barton had a single, and Elliott had two hits and three RBIs.
Joyner added three hits, Robin Swift had one, Mike Williams had three hits with two being double s and four RBIs while Dakota Graves had two hits and three RBIs.
Nick Laster added one hit and one RBI, Cooper had one hit, Chavers had one hit and one RBI, Brandon Carmichael had two hits and Morris had one hit.
