Mr. Jerry Eugene Carpenter, 65, of Hwy 4, Century, Fla., died suddenly Saturday, March 22, 2014, at his residence.

He was a native of Grove Hill, a former resident of Jackson, and a long time resident of Century, Fla.  He was a member of the Little Escambia Baptist Church, a 1967 graduate of Jackson High School and a retired teacher from Flomaton High School.

He is survived by a son, James Carpenter of Brewton; a daughter, Madison Carpenter of Brewton; a brother, Joseph William Carpenter, Jr. of Jackson; two sisters, Lula Mae Bradley of Jackson and Ella Ruth Carpenter of Grove Hill.

Visitation was held Friday, March 28, 2014, from 1 until 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 28, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Hogg officiating. Interment followed in Moyeville Church Cemetery in Flomaton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Jimmy Ray Ivey

Mr. Jimmy Ray Ivey, 65, of Buddy Lane, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in a local hospital after a brief illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton. He was of the Pentecostal faith, a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired industrial painter from the construction industry. He was a farmer, an Alabama football fan and a Nascar racing fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Myra Lee Ivey; a sister, Jeanette Wright; and a half sister, Idell Johnson.

He is survived by, a special friend and step-mother to his children, Diane Salter of Brewton; two daughters, Kim Shell and Kara Ivey, both of Brewton; one brother, Cecil Ivey of Brewton; two sisters, Daisy Portwood and Betty Johnson, both of Brewton; six grandchildren, Nicole Powell, Kristen Lowery, Morgan Lowery, Kegan Tucker, Malachi Risley and Nicholas Risley; and three great-grandchildren, Kylar Powell, Gauge Nelson and James Powell.

Visitation was held Friday, March 28, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Cadenhead officiating. Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery of Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

 

Felicia Kay Bonds

Mrs. Felicia Kay Bonds Anthony, 52, of McDonald Road in Range, died  Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in a Foley medical facility after a brief illness.

She was a native and  lifelong resident of Conecuh County. She attended the Gospel Lighthouse Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Larry David Bonds; and a son, Billy Lamont Black.

She is survived by her mother, Virginia Bonds; a daughter, Amanda (Daniel) Hawkins; a brother, Russell David Bonds, all of Range; two grandchildren, Katherine Hawkins, and Daniel Hawkins.

Visitation was held Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Larry James officiating. Interment followed in Ramah Cemetery in Lenox with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

‘Bo Bo’ Barnes

Mr. Bobby Mitchell “Bo Bo” Barnes, 56, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at his Brewton residence.

He was born in Mobile and had been a lifelong resident of the Brewton/Castleberry area. He was a member of the Conecuh County High School class of 1976, and was employed by the Alabama Department of Transportation. He was of the Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Bernadine Barnes.

He is survived by two sons, Eric (April) Barnes  and Kevin Barnes, both of Brewton; one brother, Johnnie Ray (Jerrie Ann) Barnes of Cantonment, Fla.; two sisters, Carol (Gus) Odom and Wanda Ingram, both of Castleberry; three grandchildren, Peyton Marie Barnes, Gracie Ann Barnes, and Preston Mitchell Barnes; and a special friend, Christie Johnson of Brewton.

Visitation was held at Craver’s Funeral Home  Tuesday, April 1, 2014, from 6 until 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Garrett and the Rev. Charles Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in London Cemetery with Craver’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Toby Burnham, Tim Burnham, Jamison Ingram, Jordon Barnes, Ken Odom and Robert Odom.

Honorary pallbearer will be Red Blair.

 

Sophia Lynell Dixon

Flomaton

 

Ms. Sophia Lynell Dixon, 37, of Flomaton died on Friday, March 21, 2014, in an out of town hospital.

She was a graduate of Flomaton High School and was number eight in her senior class. She was a member of the National Junior/Senior Beta Club, a Southern Pine representative and a recipient of the Sara Neal Scholarship. She continued her education and received an AS degree from Jefferson Davis Community College, a RMA license from American Medical Technologists, a degree from Stratford Institute as a pharmacy recipient, and a job offer from Southern University as director of the Medical Assistant Program and later received her license from the Medical State Board of Pharmacy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roosevelt Dixon, Sr.; three aunts, Annie M. Carter, Liffie McCorey and Vinee’y Dees; three uncles, William Dixon, Bernard Dixon, Sr. and Jimmy Dixon, Sr.

She is survived by her mother, Barbara Dixon of Flomaton; a sister, Winell Dixon of Flomaton; a brother, Roosevelt Dixon, Jr. of Flomaton; a uncle, Elbert Dixon, Sr.; nine aunts, Inez Blair of Century, Fla., Elanor (Mike) McGill of Flomaton, Minnie Golston of Evergreen, Callie Newsom of Flomaton, Lucille Taylor of Sand Diego, Calif., Barbara J. Dixon of Century, Fla., Sylvia Bates of St. Petersburg, Fla., Barbara Helen Etheridge of Jacsonville, Fla., and Estelle Etheridge of Brewton; two nieces, Zynetria Jarelle Hooks of Flomaton and Jasmine Cherelle Kyles of Pensacola, Fla.; four nephews, Derek Pullum of Bay Minette, Antonio Lett, Roosevelt Dixon III, and Elijah Powell; three God-brothers Bernard Dixon, Jr., JaCorey Benjamin and Zavier Brooks; a God-sister, two adopted sisters, and an adopted brother, MaKayla Harris, Leslie Jones, Linda Jefferson and Melvin Archie.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Bethel A.F.&M. Church of God, Century, Fla., with Elder Russell Fountain, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Fannie/Damascus Cemetery of Flomaton with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

 

Francis Greer

Sebring, Fla.

 

Mr. Francis Greer, 94, of Sebring, Fla., died Thursday, March 13, 2014.

He was born in Troy, Ala. and was a veteran of World War II, stationed at Hendrick Field where he met his wife Doris. He worked for Highlands Hammock State Park, retiring from Florida Park Services after 34 years and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Greer; his sisters and brothers, Audrey Hoomes, Ruth Lanier, Edith Warren Buster Greer, Dick Greer and Byard Greer.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Tyson Greer of Sebring; a step-son, David Lee Houpe of Sebring; and numerous nieces and nephews in Alabama.

Visitation was held  Monday, March 17, 2014 at Morris Funeral Home in Sebring.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Eugene Bengston officiating. Interment followed at Homeland Cemetery with Morris Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

 

Sue ‘Suzie’ Aycock Hunter

Mrs. Sue “Suzie” Aycock Hunter, 57, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in a Mobile hospital.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leonard and Maggie Aycock, and J.D. and Annie Martin.

She is survived by her father and step-mother, Gene and Gladys Aycock of Brewton; her mother and step-father, Emma Ann and Larry Craft of Foley; two daughters, Shawna (Phillip) Sabo of Tampa, Fla., and Katie Phillips of Orange Beach; one brother, Larry Aycock of Range; one sister, Virginia “Annie” Roper of Foley; four grandchildren, Brielan, Kiersten, Kaleb and Taylor.

A memorial service was held Saturday, March 29, 2014 with Pine Rest Funeral Home of Foley directing.
