Construction work on the latest round of Escambia County ATRIP projects is about to begin.
At Monday’s county commission meeting, commissioners approved a funding agreement for the Jay Road project – one of five projects funded by the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program.
County Engineer Bill Bridges said that the county will replace a damaged drainage culvert on Jay Road. Work will begin on that portion of the project when school lets out for the summer, as the road will be closed while that work is done.
Jay Road is located in the Riverview Community and runs to the Florida state line.
“That project will be let for bids this month,” Bridges said. “But work will soon start on projects in the Atmore area. These roads haven’t been resurfaced in years, so they all warranted work. Several of them were in pretty bad condition.”
Weather permitting work will begin on Woods Road and Robinson Road followed by North Canoe Road. All three roads are in the Atmore area, Bridges said.
“Then work will start on Wolflog Road, which is County Road 6, and it runs from Hwy. 31 to north of Pollard to Hwy. 113 in Flomaton,” he said. “After that, crews will come to Pea Ridge Road, which starts at the Brewton city limits near the college and goes to Ala. Hwy. 41. “
Escambia County’s total ATRIP award was recorded at $11.9 million.
“Some 45 counties shared the final $372 million in funding for cities and counties in the last phase of the program, which is the largest road and bridge project in state history. ATRIP is funded by GARVEE bonds, which state officials said allow Alabama to access future federal funds for needed road and bridge projects.
