JDCC softball and baseball teams take losses

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team picked up their 11th win in 13 games Tuesday as they doubled up Lawson State 8-4. The win for the Warhawks improved JDCC to 19-17 overall.
JDCC led Lawson 1-0 after one inning and 2-0 after two inning before falling behind 3-2 in the third inning.
After tying the game at 3-all in the fourth, JDCC took a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning only to give up one run to Lawson in the bottom of the eighth.
With the game tied at 4-all heading into the final inning, JDCC plated four runs in the ninth and held Lawson scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win by four.
For the Warhawks at the plate, Hunter Myrick went 2-for-4 while Taylor Fought had one hit and two RBIs.
Logan Hill went 1-for-2 with a double and Brandon Davis went 1-for-2.
Dake Rivers added two hits for JDCC along with Brandon Goins. Going has one RBI along with Taylor Baynes and Michael Fox.
Baynes went 2-for-2 with a double while Fox had one hit in the win.
On the mound, Roman Donofro, Jacob Fillmore, Mitchell Peterson, Tyler Henry, and Dylan Johnson all pitched. Henry was the pitcher of record.
All JDCC’s pitchers combined to go nine innings and allowed six hits, four runs, one earned, walked two, hit two and struck out five.

Alabama Southern:
Four runs in the first inning for Alabama Southern—two on bang-bang plays at the plate and an obstruction call—paved the way for a 5-2 conference win for the Eagles of Monroeville over the JDCC baseball team Thursday in Brewton. JDCC also had a costly error in the first inning on a would-be double play that helped lead to a run.
Alabama Southern went on to add one more run in the fourth inning while holding JDCC to one run each in the sixth and eighth innings to get the three-run win. The loss for JDCC dropped the Warhawks to 19-18 overall and to 14-11 in conference play.
Leading the way at the plate for the Warhawks of JDCC in the loss were Jonathan Moore, John-Mark Cosby, Craig Headley and Alex Jones.
Moore had two singles along with Cosby while Headley and Jones both had a double each and one RBI.
Nick Helton was tagged with the loss on the mound as he went the first 4 2/3 innings and allowed nine hits, five runs, two earned, walked three and struck out one.
Tyler Henry went the next 3 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and struck out one.
Dylan Johnson went the final inning and allowed one hit.

JDCC softball vs Faulkner Thursday
In a home conference doubleheader Thursday against Faulkner State, JDCC’s Lady Warhawk softball team was swept 5-0 and 7-1 to fall to 14-35 overall and to 4-8 in conference play.
In game one, JDCC was held to only three hits and scored no runs while plating one run in game two on four hits.
In game one, Faulkner State held JDCC scoreless while scoring two runs each in the first and sixth innings and one in the seventh.
Kaitlin Hadaway suffered the pitching loss as she went seven innings and allowed nine hits, five runs, four earned, walked two and struck out one.
At the plate, Kaitlyn Kenfield, Breanna Hall and Caroline Clarke all had one hit each.
In game two, JDCC scored their lone run in the first inning before giving up seven unanswered to Faulkner State to take the six-run loss. Faulkner scored three runs in the fourth inning and two each in the sixth and seventh innings.
Hall and Jessica Swindle pitched in the loss with Hall being the pitcher of record.
The duo combined to go seven innings and allowed 11 hits, seven runs, five earned, walked two and struck out one.
At the plate, Audrey Hamric had a double while Kenfield, Clark, and Mindy Walker had one hit each.
The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team was swept in a conference doubleheader Wednesday at Bishop State to fall to 14-33 overall and to 4-6 in conference play.
JDCC lost game one to Bishop State by a score of 2-1 and took an 8-2 loss in game two.
In game one, JDCC led 1-0 after one inning of play before giving up two unanswered runs to Bishop State with one run coming in the third inning and one in the sixth.
Kaitlin Hadaway took the pitching loss in game one as she went six innings and allowed four hits, two runs, one earned, walked seven and struck out none.
Mindy Walker and Caroline Clark both went 1-for-3 at the plate for JDCC while Moriah Trujillo had two hits.
In game two, JDCC was held to only three hits and gave up five runs in the fourth inning to Bishop State to suffer an 8-2 loss.
JDCC’s lone two runs came in the fourth inning while Bishop scored two in the third, five in the fourth and one in the sixth to get the six-run win.
Laura Zeegers was 2-for-3 for JDCC while Chelsey Ramer was 1-for-2. Ramer and Jessica Swindle had one RBI each for the Lady Warhawks.
Swindle and Hall both pitched in the loss for JDCC and combined to go six innings and allowed eight hits, eight runs, two earned, walked five, struck out two and gave up two homeruns.
JDCC made four errors in the game two loss.
