Marijuana-filled Mason jar found at picnic table… 

Citizen tips led to the arrest of three Brewton residents for drug charges – including two found with a Mason jar of marijuana and crack at a picnic table.

Sgt. Brock Holt with the Brewton Police Department said officers were sent to a home on Hayes Street after the department received a tip about illegal activity Friday.

“When officers arrived they found two individuals at a picnic table, with marijuana in a Mason jar, crack cocaine and a set of scales,” Holt said.

Arrested were Michael Hardy and Randy Spears. Each was charged with possession of marijuana I; possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Thursday, officers received a citizen tip about illegal drug activity at the corner of May and East Jackson streets, Holt said. There, officers arrested Shannon Edwards Jr., who now faces charges of possession of marijuana II and possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine).

Holt credited the calls from concerned citizens with getting the drug offenders off the streets.

“We want to encourage the general public to call about anything they suspect illegal activity,” said Holt.
