Babe Ruth Monday: Arkansas and South Carolina get wins in final week of season

The final week of the 2014 Brewton Babe Ruth regular season kicked off Monday night in Brewton and the Arkansas Razorbacks and South Carolina Gamecocks picked up wins.
Arkansas took down Arizona State 12-0 while South Carolina defeated LSU 8-1.
With the wins, Arkansas moved to 7-9 overall this season while South Carolina improved to 9-6-1.
With the losses, Arizona State dropped to 4-11-1 while LSU fell to 11-5.
Games were scheduled to resume Tuesday in Brewton and will finish up Thursday in Brewton.
Games will be played at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. with Arkansas and Arizona State playing each other and South Carolina and LSU meeting.
As of Monday’s games, LSU remained in first place while South Carolina remained on their heels in second place. Arkansas remained in third place while Arizona State rounded out the league in fourth place.
LSU needs just one win over South Carolina in the final two games to clinch the league championship. With a sweep over LSU, South Carolina would win the league by ½ game.

Arkansas 12, Arizona State 0
The Arkansas Razorbacks pounded out 18 hits and Matt Hutchins kept Arizona State off the scoreboard Monday as Arkansas routed Arizona State 12-0.
Arkansas held a 1-0 after one inning and a 3-0 lead after three innings. After getting one more in the fifth and three in the sixth inning to build a 7-0 lead, Arkansas added five more in the top of the seventh to get the win by 12.
Hutchins went the complete game on the mound for the Razorbacks and allowed three hits, no runs, walked four, struck out five and hit one batter in the win.
Matt Smith had a double in the loss for Arizona State while Devin Parker had a double and a single.
Micah Flores took the loss on the mound for the Sun Devils of Arizona State as he went all seven innings and allowed 18 hits, 12 runs, nine earned, walked none and struck out six.
For Arkansas at the plate, Hutchins added three singles and a double and Garrett Salter had two doubles. Jo Jo Booker finished with two doubles and a triple and three RBIs.
Hunter Revel had two singles and two RBIs while Weston Riddle added two singles and one double and two RBIs.
Trentez Johnson had a single and a double in the win while Austin Rowell had a single and one RBI and Taylor Ragan had a single. Caleb Kaylor finished with one RBI.
Arizona State played the whole game with only eight players.

South Carolina 8, LSU 1
Needing a sweep of LSU to clinch the regular season league championship, South Carolina started things out on the right foot Monday as they downed the league’s first place team by a score of 8-1.
The two teams combined for only two hits in the game.
Lane Clark had a single in the sixth inning to break up South Carolina pitcher Joshua Winton’s no-hitter.
For South Carolina, Derrick Barton had a single in the first inning for the Gamecocks’ lone hit of the game. Caleb Winton added two RBIs while Troy Lewis, Aaron Bosarge, Preston Townson, and Christian Nelson all had one RBI each.
Joshua Winton earned the win on the mound for South Carolina as he went six innings and allowed one hit, one unearned run, walked three and struck out 11.
For LSU, Brandon Moye took the loss on the mound. Joseph Blackburn and Kristian Taylor joined Moye on the mound.
Moye went the first four innings and allowed one hit, five runs, three earned, walked three, struck out four and hit two batters.
Blackburn failed to register an out in the fifth inning as he allowed three runs, walked one and hit three batters.
Taylor went the final 1 1/3 innings and allowed no runs, no hits, walked two and struck out four.
