The push is on to raise an estimated $100,000 to renovate the playground at Dogwood Hills Municipal Park.

The project, which has been adopted by the Brewton Leadership Class, is designed to “benefit everyone, as well as help promote help and tourism in Brewton,” said Connie Baggett, class member and the city’s director of program management.

The playground equipment was installed by a former leadership class at Dogwood Hills Municipal Park and is in need of repair, and with the community’s help, we will be working to replace it, Baggett said.

“The leadership class has just started its fundraising campaign and we have a long way to go,” Baggett said. “Cost estimates put our goal at $100,000 which includes replacing sand with federally mandated and certified wood chips as a base.”

To help raise money for the project, the class will host a number of upcoming events – including Saturday’s Blueberry Regatta. Registration deadline is Friday at 5 pm at the chamber of commerce.

Donations are also being accepted.

“We would hope that those in the community would consider donating to this great cause that benefits children and adults of all age groups in and around our community,” she said. “We are also asking businesses and individuals to donate toward the goal. The faster we get commitments, the faster we can get a great new playground in place.”

This year’s leadership class includes Baggett, Dwayne Higdon, Joe Whitt III, Joey Turner, Kristy Edwards, Lauren Yoder, Ruthie Cooper, Wanda Waldrop and Suzanne Anderson.
