A Tuesday primary election runoff will decide two seats in Escambia County, including the candidate who will seek the November vote as the local state representative.
In the race for local seats, only a select number of voters will cast a ballot between Kevin Hoomes and Debbie “Mrs. Mac” Quarles for the county school board District No. 1 seat.
In the June Primary, former county school superintendent Randall Little split the vote between Hoomes and Quarles, forcing a runoff between the candidates.
Hoomes ended with 49.9 percent of the vote to Quarles’ 27.4 percent.
Voters also have an opportunity to cast a ballot in the state senate District 22 race between Republican Party candidates – Greg Albritton and Harry D’Olive. In the June 3 Primary, local voters overwhelmingly supported Albritton, who finished with 951 votes in the county, or 46.28 percent of the vote.
The winner of the race will face Democrat Susan Smith of Atmore in November.
All statewide Republican ballots will have the Secretary of State’s race between John Merrill and Reese McKinney; the state auditor’s race between Jim Zeigler and Dale Peterson, and the race for Public Service Commission Place 2 between Chris “Chip” Beeker and Terry Dunn.
Those voting as a Democrat on June 3 can vote in the Republican runoff. The Alabama Republican Party doesn’t have any restrictions on crossover voting.
Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
