Brewton 10U baseball eliminated in state semifinals by Westside

After falling behind 2-0 Monday night and seeing their game get postponed until Tuesday due to rain, Brewton’s 10U Cal Ripken baseball team saw their magical postseason run come to an end.
The Brewton all-stars suffered a 5-2 loss to Westside Tuesday at the state tournament in Coosa to be eliminated. Brewton went 5-1 overall at the state tournament.
In the game Tuesday, Brewton trailed Westside 1-0 after one inning and 2-0 after three innings. Westside added two in the fifth and one in the sixth to increase their lead to 5-0 over Brewton heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Brewton’s two runs in the game came with two outs when Ed Dolihite doubled to score Nolan Atkinson and Trent Cooper.
Dolihite went 1-for-3 at the plate for Brewton with the double and two RBIs.
Jaxson Flores went 2-for-3 and Kyle Blevins went 1-for-3. Cooper went 1-for-2.
Atkinson took the loss on the mound as he went six innings and allowed eight hits, five runs, two earned, walked two and struck out six.
Brewton made three errors in the loss while Westside made none.
Overall in the postseason Brewton went 10-2. Brewton started their all-star season off with a loss to Opp in the district tournament before winning five straight, including two over Opp in the championship game, to win the title.
Since the opening loss to Opp, Brewton had won 10 straight games before losing Tuesday in the semifinals.
