Football season is getting close

Published 9:37 am Wednesday, July 23, 2014

As the day was coming to an end for us in the office Tuesday, I was given the task to write a column as my publisher had to step out for a meeting.
About 30 minutes later after she gave me this job, I came up with the subject of what to write about…it is almost football season baby!
Sorry! Got a little carried away there.
Tuesday marked one month until the first high school football games of the 2014 season for both T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal.
Both teams will hit the road for their week one games as the Tigers of T.R. Miller will travel to meet the Andalusia Bulldogs.
The Eagles of East Brewton will have just a few more miles to travel than T.R. Miller for their first game of the season as they will head to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on Bishop Snyder High School.
The first official day of practice for teams in the state of Alabama will be Tuesday, Aug. 5.
I know I am not alone in looking forward to the start of football season—both high school and college.
Ever since the last down was played last season and the final second seconds ticked off the clocks for your favorite team, I know you have been doing the same.
We just had SEC Media Days in Hoover last week and I am sure that fired some folks up. It is just about every Saturday that one of my friends on Facebook has posted that “just six more Saturdays until college football” and every week the countdown gets closer and closer.
While football season is king in this area, let us remember that others prepare just as hard for their seasons in the fall and often get overlooked.
Also gearing up for their seasons are our local high school bands and cheerleaders. We have volleyball season that is getting close as well as cross country.
Although I have enjoyed a little down time as of late and enjoyed being able to go home at 5 p.m. and spend some time with my family — and yes I will miss them once the above-mentioned seasons get here and I have to be out in the gyms or on the sidelines — but I am ready for it all to be here.
And I know you are as well.
Believe me, it will be here before we know it, but I sure wish it would hurry up and get here.
Until we meet again here or out in the world of sports, God bless.
