Atmore to host TRM football Friday

For the second straight week, the T.R. Miller Tigers will be hitting the road for a road game, but this week it will be against non-region opponent Escambia County of Atmore.
T.R. Miller leads the series with Atmore with a 40-34-4 record. Last year, T.R. Miller won 50-18.
Atmore comes into the game with an 0-5 record overall and is 0-3 in region play. The Blue Devils lost to Jackson 49-0 Friday night.
The Blue Devils are being outscored 18-192 this season.
“Well, Atmore is right now in the process of building a team,” TRM head coach Jamie Riggs said. “They have struggled at the start of the season this year. They certainly have some talent. Probably, right now, I would say that we have a long way to go to be the team that we want to be. I certainly was not pleased with our performance the other night. We are certainly going to have to improve to get better some this week. Not only do we need to do that to beat Atmore, but we also need to do that to be a better team down the line. Right now, I am not pleased with our play the last couple of weeks.”
Riggs said Atmore is led by No. 6, Gaetyn Thames and No. 74, O’Shea D’el Fountain.
“He is really outstanding. He really gave us some fits last year. They have a good offensive and defensive tackle for them that has played well. Like always for Atmore, they have some size and some strength. They have just struggled with some things.”
Riggs said he thinks the Blue Devils will take Friday’s home game against his Tigers seriously.
“I think you will see them improve and get better,” he said. “The other thing I can tell you is that this is an important game to them and they will play their best game this year. They are not playing 5A this week, they are playing 3A. They are going to play their best game of the year and we better be ready. I have got some real concerns of how ready we will be this week, because we were certainly not ready Friday night.”
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Atmore.
