WSN football to host Calhoun Friday for homecoming

It is homecoming week for the W.S. Neal Eagles this week and they will welcome the Calhoun Tigers to town Friday night.
Calhoun is currently 0-4 overall after losing to Goshen 42-18 Friday night.
W.S. Neal leads the overall series with Calhoun with an 8-0 record. The two teams last met in 2009 when W.S. Neal came away with a 54-32 win.
“They have not had a lot of success so far this year,” W.S. Neal head coach Doug Hoehn said. “They have several good athletes and good team speed. I think they have been hurting themselves with turnovers. You are not going to win games when you make turnovers.”
Hoehn knows something about turnovers as his team made three Friday night in a 38-16 loss to UMS-Wright.
“Last Friday night, we saw how turnovers can change a game drastically,” Hoehn said. “When you are playing a good football team, you can’t help them out by making turnovers. Their first drive, it took them seven minutes to get down there and score. Then on our next three drives, we turn the ball over to them and they get 21 points. We only punted three times, but when it is 21-0 in the first quarter, the kid’s minds start to wonder. I think we just came out too excited.”
Hoehn said this week against Calhoun, his team needs to keep their concentration, play aggressive football and play assignment football.
“Our kids are playing really hard, we just have to limit our mistakes,” Hoehn said. “Calhoun, if they come in here and don’t have turnovers themselves, I don’t know how good of a team they can be.”
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in East Brewton.
