One team will suffer their first region loss Friday night as the T.R. Miller Tigers welcome the Opp Bobcats into town for a class 3A, region 1 battle.
T.R. Miller moved to 6-0 overall after taking down Escambia County of Atmore Friday night while Opp fell to 3-2 overall with a 28-27 loss to Andalusia in overtime. T.R. Miller 3-0 in region play while Opp is 2-0.
The Tigers of T.R. Miller hold an 18-12-0 record against Opp and defeated Opp last year 22-7.
Tiger head coach Jamie Riggs said Opp’s play is focused on quarterback, No. 7, Orlando Lacy.
“With Opp, everything starts with their quarterback,” Riggs said. “He is one of the fastest high school athletes in the state of Alabama. They are in an offense that allows them to run him a lot. He is obviously the deal. If you are going to defend him, you better get some people to the ball. Pursuit is going to be an issue for us this week because you can’t rest on him at all.
“You have to keep him from making the big play and many people have been unable in doing that.”
Riggs said the Bobcats are a young team.
“They have a lot of good younger players coming,” Riggs said. “In addition to their wins they have, their losses have been very close.
“So, they are an improving team and one of the dangerous teams in our region.”
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Brewton. The winner of the game will lead the region standings.
