Game preview story: WSN at Monroe County

Published 9:10 am Thursday, October 2, 2014

Entering this Friday’s game, the W.S. Neal Eagles and the Monroe County Tigers sit at the bottom of the class 4A, region 1 standings with winless region records.
That will change Friday night in Monroeville as one team will pick up their first region win while the other will remain winless.
W.S. Neal enters the game with a 3-2 overall record, but is 0-2 in region play. Monroe County is 0-5 overall and is 0-3 in region play. Monroe County is coming off a 28-13 loss to Excel Friday night.
W.S. Neal and Monroe County last played in 2011 and W.S. Neal earned a 55-14 win to improve to 22-14-1 overall against the Tigers.
W.S. Neal head coach Doug Hoehn said Monroe County has some talented athletes this season.
“They have a very good wide receiver in No. 19, Kaderrius Wesley,” Hoehn said. “They also have a good quarterback in No. 5, Christon Stallworth. They have a lot of size and good team speed.”
Hoehn said his team needs to play four solid quarters of football and hold on to the football.
“That is what we need to do to win,” Hoehn said. “It is a region game and it is an important game.
“It is a road game for us, but we have to be ready to play.”
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Monroeville.
