The W.S. Neal Lady Eagles varsity volleyball team picked up their second straight win Thursday at home against Central’s Jaguars, but the JV team suffered their third straight loss.
W.S. Neal’s varsity took down Central 3-0 to move to 7-6 overall while the JV team lost 2-0 to fall to 3-5.
The varsity won 25-20, 25-10, and 25-21 while the JV lost 25-14 and 25-17.
Head coach Jason Blaney said his JV team struggled in the loss, but the varsity looked pretty good.
“The JV really need to work on our communication and receiving of serve,” Blaney said. “In varsity play, we looked pretty good. It was consistent play the first two sets. We found ourselves down by four in the third set and I really pushed them to finish it. They stepped up and took the lead and then finished.”
Blaney said his team served pretty well in the win.
“Our passes to setter were not as good as they have been which took us out of our aggressive play, but when opportunity presented itself we had some great kills,” Blaney said. “The team is playing very decent right now and it was good to beat a very good Central team coached by Coach Smith. They beat us last year and we wanted this one bad and I was proud of the win. We have had a good week and will be playing in Clarke County tomorrow (Saturday) for their Dig Pink tournament. We play Akron at 10 and Sweet Water at noon prior to single elimination which will start at 1:15 p.m.”
In the varsity win Thursday, Tykeria Nolan had 12 service winners, four aces, and five kills while Jodi Busby had 17 service winners, two aces, and four kills. Haleigh Dubose finished with seven service winners, two aces, four kills, and one block.
