A Molino, Fla., man is dead and four others were injured in separate weekend accidents in and around Brewton.
The fatality occurred Sunday in front of the Georgia Pacific Mill on U.S. Hwy. 31 at approximately 9:07 p.m. It involved an 18-wheeler and a Chevrolet Blazer, driven by 42-year-old James Thomas Ward.
Sgt. Patrick Caylor with the Brewton Police identified Ward as the fatality.
“The blazer and the 18-wheeler were traveling northbound when the crash occurred,” Caylor said. “The 18-wheeler was en route to Brewton from Mobile to make a delivery.
“When I arrived on scene, the blazer was underneath the trailer of the truck,” he said. “Ward did have to be extricated from the vehicle by the Brewton Fire Department. He was pronounced dead on scene by emergency officials.”
Caylor said the crash remains under investigation and he will seek assistance in the traffic homicide investigation from another law enforcement agency.
Just before 7 p.m. Saturday, a 1989 Ford, driven by Michael O. Crenshaw of Atmore crashed into a 2013 Hyundai, driven by Timothy Stokes of Evergreen.
Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook said the crash occurred on U.S. Hwy. 31 at the 75.98 mile marker.
“Mr. Crenshaw was transported to a local hospital for treatment, while Mr. Stokes was taken to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, as were his two passengers – Brian and Albert Stokes,” he said.
No further information was available as the crash remains under investigation.
On Monday, an Atmore man was air lifted after falling approximately 25 feet from a boom truck.
Sgt. Travis Minchew with the Brewton Police said 42-year-old Jerry Smith fell head first onto concrete after trimming limbs at the Cedar Forrest apartment complex.
“Mr. Smith was about 25-30 feet in the air, and a witness said he was leaning over to cut a limb,” Minchew said. “When he leaned over, they saw him fall.”
Minchew said he believed Smith suffered multiple broken limbs; however, his exact condition was not immediately known.
