After suffering their first loss of the season Friday night at home against Opp, the T.R. Miller Tigers (6-1 overall, and 3-1 in region play) will travel to play the Geneva Panthers this Friday in another region game.
Geneva comes into the game with T.R. Miller with 4-2 overall record and is 2-1 in region play. Geneva lost to Opp 30-13 for their lone region loss, but had an open week this past Friday. Geneva’s other lone loss was to Slocomb by a score of 21-10.
T.R. Miller and Geneva have played two times, with both coming in Brewton. TRM is 2-0 against Geneva after wining 21-7 in a third round playoff meeting in 2000. The other meeting was another third round meeting in 1986 that T.R. Miller won 13-12.
T.R. Miller Tiger head coach Jamie Riggs said Geneva is a diverse team.
“When it comes to offense, they have done everything from being in the wide open shotgun from being in a two-tight end set and the wishbone. So they are kind of difficult to prepare for from that standpoint.”
Riggs said Geneva had a good quarterback/running back in No. 3, Nihle Daniels.
“He has spent some time at shotgun as a quarterback and some time there as a running back,” Riggs said. “They tend to give him the ball a lot. He can really do some things with the ball. Obviously, that causes us some concern.”
Riggs said Geneva has some really good offensive lineman as well.
“They are one of the better blocking teams that we have seen,” Riggs said. “On defense, they have a little size. They have some really tall kids and have played, at times, some really good defense this year, particularly against the run. It is a home game for them this year, so we are going to have to handle the trip and we need to get our act together and play much better as a team than we did Friday night.”
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Geneva.
