WSNMS football ends with win at Atmore

After suffering a heartbreaking loss last week to Brewton Middle School at home, their first loss in 12 games, the W.S. Neal Middle School football team ended their season on a winning note Thursday in Atmore. The Eagles of East Brewton claimed a 24-6 win over Atmore to end their season with a 6-1 record.
WSNMS led 8-0 after one quarter of play and 16-6 at the half. In the second half, WSNMS took a 24-6 lead in the third quarter and held on for the 18-point win after both teams failed to score in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles tallied 14 first downs in the win and racked up 231 total yards of offense. WSNMS had 188 yards on the ground and 43 in the air.
Leading the way rushing for WSNMS was Nate Hutcheson with 95 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown. Noah Hill added 25 yards on five carries and had one score while Zack Baxter had 67 yards on seven carries.
Matt Thomas added one score in the win while Rickey Samuel had four yards rushing, Mateo Smith had five, and Jennings Hobbs had four.
Thomas was 2-for-3 passing with 43 yards. Both passes were to Taylor Fountain.
Atmore had four first downs in the loss and 40 total yards. Atmore had 27 yards on 17 carries and had one rushing touchdown while going 2-for-4 passing for 13 yards.
