TRM volleyball defeats Hillcrest Tuesday to win regular season area championship

T.R. Miller’s Lady Tiger volleyball team officially clinched the regular season area championship Tuesday with a 3-0 win over the Hillcrest Jaguars.
With the win, T.R. Miller improved to 17-4 overall and will host the area tournament Monday.
In the game Tuesday in Evergreen, T.R. Miller won set one 25-10, set two 25-9, and set three 25-14.
In set one, Brittany Warren had 11 straight service points to open the game and finished with four kills. Lizzy Pollitte had four service points and Amelia Peach had two service points and five kills.
In set two, Warren led with seven service points and four kills while Peach had two points and five kills. Mykayla Harrison added three blocks and four kills while Steely Ruzic had five service points. Myra Reiss added four service points and eight assists.
In the set three win, Anna Kate Brittain had seven service points, Warren had four, and Harrison had three kills.
TRM head coach Greg White said he was proud for the girls as the win officially made the TRM volleyball team the regular season area champs for the first time since 2006.
“They have worked hard all season and we have to work even harder now that it is getting close to play-offs,” White said. “We host the area tournament on the 20th so we have to keep working hard.”
In the area tournament Monday, T.R. Miller will get the winner of Hillcrest and Opp at 3:30 p.m. for the area championship. Hillcrest and Opp will play in a semifinal game at 2 p.m.
The area winner and runner-up will both advance to the super regional tournament in Montgomery.
Class 3A, area 2 will meet up with class 3A, area 8 at the super regionals in Montgomery.
Area 8 includes Oakman, Fultondale, and Midfield. Oakman won the regular season area championship.
With an area tournament championship win, TRM will get their area 8 runner-up on Fri. Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m.
If TRM is the area runner-up, they will get the area 8 winner at 3 p.m. Teams have to win two games at the super regionals to make it to the Elite 8 state tournament in Birmingham.
