County BOE recognizes many at recent board meeting

Several people were recognized for their accomplishments Thursday at the Escambia County Board of Education’s monthly meeting.
Superintendent John Knott recognized Escambia County, Flomaton, and W.S. Neal High School’s bands due to recent accomplishments at recent band contests this year.
“It is our pleasure to recognize those students for all their hard work and achievements,” Knott said.
Also recognized was board member Michael Goolsby for his service to the Escambia County Board of Education.
“Mr. Goolsby has been a valuable, valuable asset to this board for well over 15 ½ years,” Knott said. “He had the privilege of helping lead our school system through the very, very hard financial times through proration. With his leadership and the other senior leadership on the board, we made it through. That is exactly why we are in the situation that we are now.”
Knott said he thinks everyone gives Goolsby the credit to leading the school board into good financial work.
Goolsby, who thanked district one’s voters for electing him, and the board and past boards for their service, let the current board with one saying. He will be replaced by Kevin Hoomes.
Also recognized by Knott was Beth Drew. Drew was named as the new assistant superintendent.
“She has served 32 years in almost every capacity,” Knott said. “We welcome her on board, and I am looking forward to her help.”
