It’s Socktober at W.S. Neal Elementary School, and to celebrate, all fourth grade students recently competed in a writing contest to tell the public about it.
Winners in the article contest were overall, Harley Wilson; first runner-up, Jenna Watts; second runner-up, Anna Hawthorne; and third runner-up, Phebee Pendelton.
Wilson’s winning submission follows:
“Have you ever heard of Socktober? Well, if you haven’t, I will tell you all about it. This month is Socktober. It is a thing where you buy socks for the needy children and elderly. I think we all should do it, because it helps people in need. A lot of schools have Socktober, but we W.S. Neal Eagles have never had Socktober before. Now is the time to start!
We should have a sock drive in Brewton! Get churches, friends, family, and your town involved. “To donate, call our school at 867-7674. If you want more information about Socktober, go to www.happysocktober.com.
“Our goal is to get as many socks as possible! We are even having a competition in our school between our two fourth grade blocks. These are the teams: Team Chevron and Team Rainbow Bright. If you read this article, you will love to get involved in Socktober! So that is why I think you and your family, friends, church, and town should get involved in Socktober.”
