Although he has only been in Brewton and at the Country Club of Brewton for a few weeks, new CCB general manager Matt Livengood has seen something “wonderful” and wants to do great things at the club and in the community.
A native of Cullman, which is about 20-30 minutes north of Birmingham, Livengood graduated high school in 2002 and then went to Mississippi State. At MSU, Livengood went through the golf management program there, as well earning a marketing degree.
Since graduating, he has served as the assistant golf professional at Peninsula Golf and Racket Club down in Gulf Shores.
“I had that job for a couple of years, and then I was the head golf professional for two years,” he said. “I was fortunate to move on and be the general manager of a club in north Alabama at Limestone Springs Golf Club. It is also a Jerry Pate designed golf course like Brewton.”
Livengood said his passion for the game of golf is what made him go into the business he is in today.
“Golf has brought me more friends than I could mention to you,” he said. “It has taught me honesty and integrity on the golf course. I always put it this way, I got married two years ago and my groomsmen were my brother and three people that I have met through golf.
“That is just a testament of what the game can do and it can change your life,” he said. “It is just my way of giving back to the game. I just want to help grow it.”
As for the CCB, Livengood says he wants to bring a family atmosphere to Brewton.
“It is obvious it is already here and I want to continue that,” he said. “I really want to get involved in the community and provide an opportunity for the club to get out to the community.
“We are an ambassador for the city of Brewton, and I hope we can support the city and the city support us,” he said.
Livengood said he has felt incredibly welcomed since he and his family has been here.
“I have not met an unfriendly person, which is a wonderful thing,” he said. “The people of this town have lived up to everything that we have been told before we moved here. We are just glad to be here and hope to be here for a long time.”
Livengood and his wife of two-and-a-half years, Shanna, are the proud parents are an eight-week-old baby named Skylar.
