Middle school basketball teams split in Brewton Thursday night; BMS sweeps Jay

The Brewton Middle School basketball teams hosted W.S. Neal Middle School Thursday and the two teams came away with a split.
In girl’s action, the Lady Tigers cruised to a 48-13 win to move to 2-0 this season while the Lady Eagles fell to 0-2.
In boy’s action, WSN rallied in the second half to down Brewton 27-24 for their first win of the season as they moved to 1-1 and Brewton fell to 1-1.
In girls action, Janasia Nettles led the Lady Tigers with 26 points to help lead Brewton to the 35-point win.
Brewton led 7-0 after one quarter of play and 15-4 at the half. In the third quarter, Brewton doubled up WSNMS 14-7 to take a 29-11 lead into the fourth. In the fourth, Brewton ended the game on a 19-2 run to aid in the win.
No. 2 (no names provided as of press time) led WSNMS in the loss with six points.
BMS was 3-for-9 from the free throw line while WSNMS was 1-for-10.
In boy’s action, with Brewton leading 16-7 with 4:49 left in the third quarter, WSNMS used a 15-0 run and outscored Brewton 20-8 in the final 7:11 of the game to get the win by three points.
Brewton led 5-2 after one quarter of play and 14-7 at the half. In the third quarter, WSNMS held a 10-2 advantage to grab a 17-16 lead. In the fourth, the Eagles of East Brewton held a 10-8 advantage to get the win by three points.
With the 15-0 run, WSNMS took a 22-16 lead over BMS with 3:10 left in the game. After leading 24-21 with 1:55 left, Brewton tied the game at 24 with 1:39 left to play in the game.
WSNMS led 25-24 with 50.2 left to play, and after Brewton missed a 3-pointer, WSN hit two free throws with .1-second left to get the win by three.
BMS was 3-for-14 from the free throw line while WSNMS was 8-for-20.
Dees (no first name provided) led Brewton with 11 points while Ricky Samuel led WSNMS with eight in the win.
The two teams will meet again Thursday in East Brewton at 4 p.m.

BMS sweeps Jay Monday
In their season opener Tuesday at home against Jay, both Brewton’s teams earned wins to start their seasons 1-0.
The Lady Tigers defeated Jay 14-12 while the boys won 33-23.
In the girls game, Jay led 2-0 after one quarter before Brewton outscored the Lady Royals 4-2 in the second quarter to tie the game at 4-all.
In the third quarter, both teams scored six points each to go into the fourth quarter tied at 10-all.
In the fourth, Brewton outscored Jay 4-2 to get the win by two points.
Raven Ewing led with eight points in the win.
In the boy’s game, Brewton led 9-1 after one quarter, but trailed 16-11 at the half after being outscored 15-2 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Brewton took a 20-18 lead after they outscored Jay 9-3 in the quarter. In the fourth, Brewton ended the game on a 13-5 run to get the win by 10 points.
Hall (no first name know) led with 12 points.
