TRM XC runs at state meet

Running in the state championship race Saturday in Oakville at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers took seventh place out of 12 state teams.
The Lady Tigers tallied 188 points.
American Christian won the championship with 51 points as they edged out Montgomery Academy’s 60 points. Bayside Academy took third place with 102 points followed by Pisgah (120), Pleasant Valley (150), Madison Academy (182), TRM, Indian Springs in eighth place (194), Winfield (204), Lauderdale County (258), Clements (262) and Lexington (273).
TRM’s Allie Nelson came in sixth place overall in the state with a time of 19:32.88. The time was a national silver standard time.
Along with Nelson, Tarah Townsend took 40th out of 119 runners while Sarah Byrd placed 58th and Madison Lum took 68th.
Carmen Knowles took 76th and Peyton Baxter took 88th. Ora Nelson was 95th and Kelsi Lum was 96th.
Four TRM boys ran as individuals in the race and Christian Carlson took 29th out of 131 runners. Micah Flores was 55th followed by Noah Morris in 101st and Walker Harris in 105th.
Montgomery Academy took the championship followed by Cottage Hill, American Christian, Winfield, Lauderdale County, Bayside, Clements, Pleasant Valley, Ohatchee, Madison Academy, and Hanceville.
For the girls, it broke a string of five second place finishes in six years for the Lady Tigers.
Last year, TRM took second place to Bayside Academy for the second straight year.
The Lady Tigers scored 103 points to place third behind state champion Montgomery Academy’s 36 points and runner-up Rogers’ 49 points in 2011, ending a three-year run at winning the runner-up trophy.
The Lady Tigers fell 18 points short to Rogers 60-42 in 2010 to claim the state runner-up. The year before, in 2009, the Lady Tigers lost by two points to Montgomery Academy and in 2008, came up seven points short also to Montgomery Academy.
