WSNMS basketball splits final games of season

Playing in front of their student body Thursday in their final game of the season against McCall, the W.S. Neal Middle School girl’s basketball team lost while the boys won.
The Lady Eagles lost to McCall 22-20 to finish their season winless with a 0-8 record. For the boys, WSNMS won 41-13 to finish 5-3.

McCall 22, WSNMS girls 20
Down 19-12 after a 9-0 run by McCall with 5:00 left in the game, WSNMS’ girls rallied late but took a 22-20 loss to finish their 2014 season winless Thursday.
WSNMS and McCall tied 2-2 after one quarter, but trailed 6-4 at the half.
In the third quarter, McCall held a 10-8 advantage to grab a 16-12 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, WSNMS held an 8-6 advantage in the quarter, but took the loss by two points.
Camille Smith led with seven points while Tori Gillam and Raven Woods had four points each.
Brianna Pugh and Tatum Reeves finished with two points each while Aaliyah Askew had one point.
The Lady Eagles were 6-for-13 from the free throw line while McCall was 3-for-13.

WSNMS boys 41, McCall 13
An 18-0 run to start the game along with an 11-0 run later and 20 points from Ricky Samuel was the right combination for the WSNMS boys as they cruised to a 41-13 win over McCall Thursday.
WSNMS opened the game on an 18-0 run and led 18-1 after one quarter of play. An 11-0 run to start the second quarter led to an 11-1 advantage in the quarter and an overall 29-2 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, with a running clock, Pollard outscored WSNMS 11-10, but trailed 39-13 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, WSNMS scored the lone two points to end the game with the 28-point victory.
Along with Samuel’s 20 points, Taylor Fountain led finished with six points and Jordan Hails had five.
Dylan Ingram chipped in four points while Matthew Thomas, Aquarius Taylor, and Laterence McCants all had two points each.
