Vivian Crawford Ginn Jackson, 86, of Pinemont Road in the Roberts Community of Brewton, passed away Wednesday night, Dec. 3, 2014, at her residence after a brief illness. She was a native of Townsend, Del., a former resident of Niceville, Fla., and a long time resident of the Roberts Community Brewton. She was a member of the Elim Baptist Church, a 1946 graduate of Murphy High School, and a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Edward (Brenda) Jackson of Valparaiso, Fla., and Millard C. Jackson of Freeport, Fla.,; one daughter, Faye J. Hodges of Roberts; one brother, Jerry (Jane) Ginn of Delaware; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Robert) Wisenbaugh, Erica Jackson, and Chris (Myra) Jackson; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Mon., Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Elim Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Headley and the Rev. Daniel Thompson officiating. Interment followed in Elim Cemetery in the Roberts Community of Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

Burt, Jr.

Brewton

Whitson Bernard Burt, Jr., 62, of Northfork Road Brewton, passed away Fri., Dec. 5, 2014, at a local hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Bratt, Fla., a former resident of Castleberry, and a long time resident of Brewton.
He was of the Freewill Baptist faith, a 1970 graduate of Conecuh County High School in Castleberry, a U.S. National Guard veteran, a member of the American Legion, and a retired recovery operator from Jefferson Smurfit with 30 years of service. He was also an entrepreneur.
He is survived by two daughters, Mille Burt, of Hartsdale, N.Y., and Katherine Suzanne Burt of Birmingham; one brother, Johnny (JoAnn) Burt of Brewton; one sister, Beverly (Joe) Filler of Excel; one niece, Brooke Davis; one nephew, Bryan (Faith) Burt; and a special friend, Cary Matthews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Whitson Burt, Sr. and Lucile Burt; one sister, Glenda Back; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Back.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Blue officiating.
Interment followed in Purnell Cemetery in Burnt Corn, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

Margretta LaJune Hardin Mattingly
East Brewton

Margretta LaJune Hardin Mattingly, 77, of Dailey Street East Brewton, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2014, at her residence after a brief illness.
She was a native of Andalusia, a former resident of Brunswick, Ga., and a long time resident of East Brewton.
She was of the Baptist faith and owner/operator of LaJune’s Beauty Unlimited.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Mattingly Butts of East Brewton and Brenda Mattingly Lajoan of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Tony (Heather) Jordan, James Haveard and Brittany Pavelic; three great-grandchildren, Brennan Jordan, Triton Jordan and Savannah Girard. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Jeff Butts.
Graveside services were held Thursday afternoon, Dec. 4, at 2:30 p.m. at the Fort Crawford Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Greer officiating. Interment followed in Fort Crawford Cemetery in East Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

Ouida Joyce Wiggins Serra
Wing

Ouida Joyce Wiggins Serra, 63, of Beaver Creek Road in Wing, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2014, in a Pensacola hospital after a brief illness. She was a native of Crestview, Fla. and a life long resident of Wing.
She was a member of the Rock Creek Assembly of God Church and attended W.S. Neal High School. She was a CNA in the healthcare industry and a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, Scotty Wiggins of Rock Creek; four brothers, Roy Wiggins of Rock Creek, David (Wanda) Wiggins of Georgiana, Richard (Penny) Wiggins of Rock Creek and Raymond (Charlene) Wiggins of Brewton; two sisters, Kristy (Will) Crane of Brewton, Angiel (Jeff) Davis of Dozier; eight nephews and nieces, Phillip Wiggins, Ben Wiggins, Josh Wiggins, Jud Wiggins, John Wiggins, Tyler Wiggins, Andrea Lucas, and Shelby Wiggins.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Rock Creek Assembly of God Church with the Rev. David Elliott and the Rev. Avon Fowler officiating. Interment followed in Rock Creek Assembly of God Church Cemetery in the Rock Creek Community with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

Mary Louise Salter
Evergreen

Mary Louise Salter, 82, passed away on Mon., Dec. 1, 2014, at her Evergreen residence.
She was born in Conecuh County and had been a resident of Evergreen for the past 12 years, coming from Brewton. She worked as a seamstress at Judy Bond for a number of years and was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rancher P. Salter; her parents, Luther and Viola Smith; two brothers, Bill Smith and the Rev. Thomas Smith; and two sons, Stevie Ray Monk and Dennis Wayne Monk.
She is survived by one son, Michael (Alicia) Salter of Evergreen; two daughters, Janice (Kevin Morris) Mosley of Brewton, and Tina Louise (Michael) Gray of Evergreen; one brother, Edward Smith of Augusta, Ga.; three sisters, Bertha Mae Stafford of Butler, Sue Weaver of Castleberry, and Jean Waldrop of Toto, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Fri., Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at Centenary Methodist Church with the Rev. Buddy Williams officiating. Interment followed in Historical Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Josh Monk, Cord Salter, Cory Salter, Kevin Walters, Dillon Reed, and Cameron Sims.
Honorary pallbearers were: Kellie Monk, Kerri Walters.

Clarence Wiley “Tot” Joyner
East Brewton

Clarence Wiley “Tot” Joyner, 73, of Dailey Street in East Brewton, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2014, in a Pensacola, Fla. hospital after an extended illness.
He was a native of Castleberry and life long resident of the Brewton area. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and had retired with 40 years of service from Container Corp. He was a former council member with the City of East Brewton and was instrumental in co-founding the Brewton Bow Club. Joyner was a member of New Vision Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Yvonne Seaman Joyner of East Brewton; one son, William (Donna) Joyner of Castleberry; a daughter, Charlene (Eddie) Cantu of Flomaton; a brother, Howard (June) Joyner of East Brewton; four grandchildren, Amber (Dusty) Wilson, Sheena Cantu, Dillon Cantu, Trista Younkin; two great-grandchildren, Karsyn Wilson and Kerrigan Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward and Ada Joyner; step-mother, Bernice Joyner; sisters, Daisy Johnson, Cora Caro, Ruby Hallford, Maggie Tedder; brothers, Cleve Joyner, the Rev. Jesse Joyner, Enoch Joyner and John Joyner.
Funeral services were held Sun., Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. Robert Knowles officiating. Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery in the Appleton community with Craver’s Funeral Home Inc. of Brewton directing.
Active pallbearers were: Kent Deakle, Eddie Cantu, Charlene Cantu, Dillon Cantu, John Rodgers, Phil Seaman, Jeff Campbell.

Stephen Jeffery Corley, 54, passed away Sun., Nov. 30, 2014 at his Brewton residence.
He was born in Columbia, S.C. and had been a resident of Brewton since 2005, coming from Lexington, S.C. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked as a forklift operator in the construction industry. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Lygia Marie Dawkins Corley of Brewton; two sons, Daniel (Danielle) Corley of Indiana, and Brian (Jamie) Hawsey of Brewton; two daughters, Dana Marie (Jeric) Heflin of El Paso, Texas and Letisha (Chris) Mealer of Picayune, Miss.; three brothers, John Thomas Corley of Sumter, S.C., Brian Dean of Rio, W. Virginia, and George Corley of Lexington, S.C.; three sisters, Lee Powell of Lexington, S.C., Alice Brode of Sumter, S.C., Dorothy Robbins of Pensacola Beach, Fla.; and 17 grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held on Mon., Dec. 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Zion Hill Cemetery with the Rev. James Aubrey Wilson officiating.

Lillie Mae Hammac Steele Estes, 88, of Harborcreek, Pa., passed away Thurs., Dec. 4, 2014 at her daughter’s residence after a brief illness.
She was a native of Brewton, and a long time resident of Harborcreek. She was a homemaker and a member of the Brewton Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She is survived by her son, Joel S. (Laurie) Steele; daughter, Mary Estes (Gary) Bliss; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a special brother-in-law, Nyle “Joey” Estes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn E. Estes; daughter, Juliette; son, Hugh Ross; and brothers, Ottis and Ennis
Funeral services are scheduled for Sat., Dec.13, at 3 p.m. from the Cchapel of Craver’s Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. Byrnes Pitts officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in Brewton with Craver’s Funeral Home Inc. of Brewton directing.

Alfred “Buddy” Henry Mitchell
Montgomery

Alfred “Buddy” Henry Mitchell, 66, a resident of Montgomery, passed away on Wed., Dec. 3, 2014.
He had a diverse understanding of Alabama politics, having been involved in the Alabama political arena for nearly four decades, including service in the executive branch, legislative branch and lobbying the Alabama Legislature. He was educated in the public schools in Brewton, and graduated from Auburn University in 1972 where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
He was employed with Judy Bond Industries in Brewton and Ozark from 1973 until 1982. He served as the Assistant Finance Director for Gov. George C. Wallace from 1983 – 1984, and as Finance Director from 1984 – 1986. He served as Chief of Staff for speaker Jimmy Clark from 1987 until 1993.
In 1993 he became the Executive Director of Governmental Affairs for Auburn University and Special Assistant to three Auburn University Presidents, where he served until his retirement in 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Colonel Fred and Sybil Mitchell; his wife, Jackie Ferguson Mitchell, and his son, Cary Thomas Mitchell.
He is survived by his sons, Alfred Henry Mitchell, Jr., and Jason Green Mitchell; grandchildren, Thomas Jason Mitchell, John Patrick Mitchell and Samantha Nicole Mitchell; brothers, Jim (Anne) Mitchell and Doug Mitchell; sister, Tanya Mitchell; and former wife, Dawn Mitchell.
Pallbearers for the service are Charles Bazemore, Johnny Moore, Mickey McDermott, John A. Teague, Jerry W. Spencer, Boyd J. Landry, Crum Foshee, Sr., David Nieson, Arch Lee and Honorary Pallbearer Dr. William Muse.
A celebration of life service will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Fri., Dec. 5, 2014 officiated by the Rev. John Ed Mathison. Burial services will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.

Mary Lucille Frazier, 76, passed away on Dec. 2, 2014.
She is survived by her husband Charles Frazier of Evergreen; her sons, Howard Stewart of Brooklyn, Kenith G. Harrelson of Brewton, James Marshel Harrelson of Brooklyn, and Charles Frazier Jr. of Brewton.
She is also survived by her daughters, Debbie Smith of Birmingham, Diane Wiggs of Louisburg, Tenn., Denese Frazier of Miami, Fla., Gail Myles of Pensacola, Fla.; brothers Perry McCartha and William McCartha both of Ozark; her sisters Louise Kilpatrick of Andalusia and Sara Walker of Orange, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sat., Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at Brooklyn Baptist Church.
Internment followed at Brooklyn Baptist Cemetery.
