ECT Thursday: TRM’s boys win over Flomaton while girls lose by 10

T.R. Miller’s varsity boys basketball team began their 2014 Escambia County Tournament Thursday with a 58-39 win over the Flomaton Hurricanes. With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in tourney play.
“We’re getting great effort on defensive end of the floor and our ability to continue to play good defense will determine the type of team we will be,” head coach Juan Johnson said of the win.
TRM led Flomaton 13-7 after one quarter of play and 28-13 at the half following a 15-6 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
In the third, TRM outscored Flomaton 20-11 to increase their lead to 48-24 heading into the fourth quarter.
Flomaton outscore TRM 15-10 in the fourth, but the Tigers were able to hang on for the 19-point win.
Chardian Johnson led TRM in the win with 24 points while Trae Walker had 14 and Kellyn Winn had eight. Austin Holmes added four points while Brooks Brown, Ahmaud Taylor, Hayden Atkinson and Michael Campbell all had two points each.
TRM’s Lady Tigers lost to Flomaton 47-37, but not stats were known as of press time.The Lady Tigers fell to 3-4 overall this season and to 0-1 in tourney play.
TRM will play WSN Friday at 6 and 7:30 p.m. The Tigers will host Atmore Saturday at the same times.
