The third time was not the charm and the saying “all good things must come to an end” played out in reality Thursday night at home for the W.S. Neal basketball Eagles.
After the Lady Eagles and varsity Eagles started the week and the 2015 season 2-0 with wins over Red Level and Excel on Monday and Tuesday respectively, both teams took losses to Clarke County.
The Lady Eagles lost 48-32 to drop to 4-11 overall while the varsity Eagles suffered a 60-34 defeat to see their overall record drop to 7-8.
In B-team action, WSN lost to the Bulldogs by a score of 36-12 to fall to 3-7 overall.
All three teams were scheduled to be back in action Tuesday night at home against UMS-Wright. The game will be the first area game of the season for the Eagles of East Brewton.

CCHS 36, WSN B-team 12
After scoring six points in the first quarter, the WSN B-team scored six points for the rest of the game to suffer a 36-12 loss to Clarke County.
The Eagles trailed the Bulldogs 15-6 after one quarter, but was blanked in the second quarter to trail 17-6 at the half after the Bulldogs only scored two points in the quarter.
In the second half, WSN was outscored 19-6 to suffer the 24-point loss. CCHS outscored WSN 7-4 in the third quarter and 12-2 in the fourth.
Branden Conway and Marvin Maddox led WSN in the loss with four points each. Trey English and De’Ron Smith both added two points each in the loss.
WSN shot 17 free throws in the loss while CCHS shot 35. WSN was 6-for-11 from the line while CCHS went 8-for-35.

CCHS 48, WSN Lady Eagles 32
KeKe Floyd poured in 18 points to lead WSN’s Lady Eagles, but it was not enough to take down Clarke County as the Lady Eagles suffered their first loss of 2015 by a score of 48-32.
Clarke County led WSN 14-9 after one quarter, but took control of the game in the second quarter with a 19-5 run to grab a 33-14 lead at the half.
WSN fought back in the second half as they used a 9-0 run in the third quarter to cut the lead to 37-27 with 51.6 seconds left in the quarter.
WSN would outscore CCHS 13-6 to cut the lead to 39-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, CCHS ended the game on a 9-5 run to take the victory by 16 points.
WSN was 8-for-17 from the free throw line while CCHS went 10-for-13.
Along with Floyd’s 18 points, MeMe Lawson finished with five points. Jashira Dees added four points, Janiya McCants had three points and Marisha Frazier had two points.

CCHS 60, WSN varsity 34
Clarke County started the game on an 11-0 run and used a 13-0 run over the span of the third and fourth quarters to drop WSN’s varsity team 60-34.
Clarke County outscored WSN 20-11 in the first quarter and 14-10 in the second quarter to build a 34-21 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, WSN cut the lead to nine points, 34-25 with 5:19 left to play in the quarter. After cutting the lead to 39-27 with 3:55 left in the quarter, Clarke County ended the quarter on a 8-0 run to grab a 47-27 lead heading into the fourth.
The Bulldogs increased their run to 13-0 in the fourth and went on to outscore WSN 13-7 in the period to seal the 26-point win.
Eight players scored for WSN in the loss with Tyshawn Davis and Treylon Watson leading the way with nine points each.
Troy Lewis added five points while DJ Hodges chipped in four points.
Jacolbey Hawthorne, Kenny Walker, and Brad Martin all had two points each in the loss. Malcolm Hawthorne finished with one point in the loss.
WSN went 9-for-14 from the free throw line while CCHS was 3-for-11.
