TRM basketball: Tiger teams continue current winning streaks at Excel Tuesday

T.R. Miller’s Lady Tigers improved their winning streak to five straight wins while the varsity Tigers won their sixth straight game Tuesday night in Excel.
The Lady Tigers defeated Excel 50-7 to move to 12-7 overall while the varsity Tigers handed Excel their first home loss of the season with a 72-63 win. The win improved TRM to 11-5 overall.
In B-team action, TRM lost to the Panthers 43-26 to drop to 3-7 overall.

Excel 43, TRM B-team 26
Excel’s B-team scored early and often against TRM Tuesday night as they defeated the Tigers 43-26.
Excel led TRM 20-4 after one quarter and held TRM to four points again in the second quarter while pouring in 12 of their own to take a 32-8 lead at the half.
TRM’s offense came to life in the third quarter as they doubled up the Panthers 14-7, but trailed 39-22 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, both teams scored four points each as Excel took the win by 17 points.
Leading TRM in the loss was Joshua Jolly as he had 13 points. Hayden Atkinson finished with five points while Jeremy Purdie chipped in four points. JoJo Nance finished with two points along with Austin Holmes.

TRM Lady Tigers 50, Excel 7
Three TRM Lady Tigers singly outscored Excel’s girls team Tuesday night as the Lady Tigers destroyed the Lady Panthers 50-7.
Steely Ruzic led in the win with 12 points while Mekiah Williams had nine and Shae Nicholson had eight points for the Lady Tigers.
TRM blanked Excel in the first quarter by a score of 20-0 and followed that with an 11-4 advantage in the second quarter to lead 31-4 at the half.
In the third quarter, TRM used a 15-2 run to build a 46-6 lead. In the fourth, the Lady Tigers outscored Excel 4-1 to get the win by 43 points.
Seven other Lady Tigers scored in the win as Kyla Bell, Mykayla Harrison and Shayn Bradley all finished with four points each.
Tiana Stallworth had three points while Morgan Longmire, Akilah Brazile and Jaden Miller all chipped in three points for the Lady Tigers.

TRM varsity Tigers 72, Excel 63
Chardian Johnson poured in 30 points while Trae Walker had 21 to lead the TRM varsity Tigers to a 72-63 win over the Excel Panthers.
In a high scoring first quarter, TRM led the Panthers 27-15 after one quarter of play.
In the second, TRM edged out the Panthers 19-14 to take a 46-29 lead in at the half.
In the third quarter, both teams scored 11 points each as the Tigers of TRM took a 57-40 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth, Excel tried to close the gap with a 23-15 run, but the Tigers held on for a nine-point win.
Along with Johnson and Walker, Kellyn Winn had seven points while Ahmaud Taylor had six. Brooks Brown finished with four points while Tamerick Jenkins and Trin Miller both had two points each.
In the last three games, Johnson has totaled 84 points for TRM for an average of 28 points/game while Walker has totaled 64 points for an average of 21 points/game.
In the current six-game winning streak, Johnson has totaled 145 points for an average of 24 points/game. He has led TRM in scoring in five of the last six games. In the lone game Johnson was not the leading scorer, Walker led in the Red Level Christmas tournament win over the Opp Bobcats.
