TRM basketball: Tigers sweep Opp Friday night for area wins

All three of T.R. Miller’s basketball teams came away with wins over the Opp Bobcats Friday night in Brewton.
The B-team Tigers took down the Bobcats 41-11 to move to 4-7 overall while Opp fell to 2-9.
In girls action, TRM’s Lady Tigers picked up their sixth straight win of the season, as they claimed a 44-16 win to move to 13-7 overall. Opp fell to 0-15 overall. The win was also an area win for the Lady Tigers as they moved to 3-0 in class 3A, area 2 play while Opp fell to 0-3.
In varsity boy’s action, TRM picked up their seventh straight win of the season, as they defeated Opp 50-40. The win was TRM’s third over Opp this season and moved them to 12-5 overall and to 3-0 in area play.
Opp fell to 4-14 overall and to 0-3 in area play.

TRM B-team 41, Opp 11
Leading 25-4 after three quarters of play, T.R. Miller started the fourth quarter on an 18-0 run to cruise to a 30-point win over the Bobcats by a score of 41-11.
TRM led Opp 11-3 after one quarter and used two 7-0 runs in the second quarter to hold a 25-4 lead at halftime.
Coming out of the locker rooms to start the second half, TRM used an 18-0 run to build a 36-4 lead with 2:46 left in the quarter.
The Tigers would go on and outscore Opp 14-2 in the third quarter to claim a 39-6 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, with the clock running due to the 30-point mercy rule, Opp edged out the Tigers 5-2, but took the loss by 30 points.
Leading TRM in the win was Michael Campbell with 11 points. Hayden Atkinson followed with nine points while Stokes Jennings had eight. Demonte Jenkins finished with four points, Joshua Jolly had three, Jeremy Purdie had three, and Darius Williams finished with two.
For the Bobcats of Opp, Evan King and Lorenzo Edwards led with three points each.
TRM shot 5-for-13 from the free throw line while Opp shot 4-for-6.

TRM Lady Tigers 44, Opp Lady Bobcats 16
TRM started the game on a 10-0 run and never slowed up as they took down the Lady Bobcats by 28 points, 44-16.
TRM led Opp 13-1 after one quarter and 18-3 at the half following a 5-2 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, TRM used a 9-0 run to start the quarter and a 12-0 run to end to build a 39-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter. TRM outscored Opp 21-2 in the third quarter.
In the fourth, with the clock running due to the 30-point mercy rule, Opp ended the game on an 11-5 run, but took the loss by 28 points.
The Lady Tigers were 2-for-10 from the free throw line while Opp shot 3-for-6.
TRM had seven Lady Tigers score in the big area win with Kyla Bell leading the way with 10 points. Mekiah Williams followed with nine points and Steely Ruzic had eight. Tiana Stallworth, Morgan Longmire and Mynetra Tolbert all had four points each in the win. Shae Nicholson chipped in two points for the Lady Tigers.
For Opp, Ratiya Peacock led with five points. Ariyon Hightower had four points while Millicent Nolin chipped in three points. Madi Henley and Tori Resinour both had two points each in the loss.

TRM varsity Tigers 50, Opp 40
While Opp tried to dictate most of the tempo in the first half, TRM used a late run to end the half and another to start the second half to overcome the Bobcats and claim a 10-point area win by a score of 50-40.
In the first quarter, Opp built a 10-6 lead with 4:09 left in the quarter, but the Tigers of TRM closed the quarter on a 7-2 run to claim a 13-12 lead after one quarter of play.
In the second quarter, both teams played back-and-forth, until Opp took a 19-17 lead with 1:33 left before the half.
From there, TRM used a 4-0 run from Chardian Johnson to give the Tigers a 21-19 lead at the half. TRM edged out Opp in the second quarter with an 18-17 scoring advantage.
In the third quarter, TRM continued their run and increased it to a 10-0 run as they claimed a 27-19 lead with 5:01 left in the quarter. TRM went on to outscore the Bobcats 14-5 in the third quarter to take a 35-24 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth, it looked like TRM was going to put the game away as they took a 37-24 lead with 6:54 left in the game.
From there, Opp used a 6-0 run to cut the Tigers’ lead to 37-30 with 5:51 left to play.
TRM would lead by 12 points with 3:32 left in the game only to see Opp cut the lead to six points, 46-40, with 33.6 left.
TRM would connect on 4-of-6 free throws late to propel them to the 10-point win.
TRM finished 19-for-33 from the free throw line while Opp was 6-for-13.
TRM’s Chardian Johnson scored a game-high 21 points and was joined in double figures by Trae Walker with 15 points and Kellyn Winn’s 12.
Tamerick Jenkins and Trin Miller both had one point each in the win for the Tigers.
For Opp, Dewayne Bonam led with 16 points. Devontae Williams joined Bonam in double figures with 12 points. Chris Morrow finished with eight points while Walker Messer and Raheem Bonam both had two points each in the loss for the Bobcats.
