TRM basketball: B-team and varsity Tigers defeat FHS while girls fall; area title on line Friday

On the road Tuesday night in Flomaton, T.R. Miller’s B-team and varsity Tigers came away with wins over the Hurricanes while the Lady Tigers suffered their second straight defeat.
In B-team action, TRM earned a 51-31 win to move to 5-8 overall this season while the varsity Tigers claimed a 74-42 win. The 32-point win for the varsity Tigers moved TRM to 13-6 overall this season.
In girl’s action, TRM suffered a 51-30 loss to drop to 13-9.
TRM’s girls and varsity boys will play for the regular season area championship Friday in Evergreen as they take on the Hillcrest Jaguars.
Both TRM’s girls and boys are 3-0 in area play and have defeated Hillcrest once already this season in Brewton.
With a win for both teams, they will clinch the regular season area championship and host the area tournament. With a loss, the teams will be tied and the area championship and tourney host will come down to a coin flip.
Following Friday’s game at Hillcrest, TRM will have only three more games left on the schedule. The Tigers will play at Andalusia Saturday; at home against Georgiana on Tues., Jan. 27; and will close out the regular season at home against W.S. Neal on Fri., Jan. 30.
All games are set for 4:30 p.m. tips with the B-team game starting things off followed by the girls and then the varsity boys.

TRM B-team 51, FHS 31
Ten B-team Tigers poured in points for the Tigers Tuesday night as they took down Flomaton by 20 points, 51-31.
Henry Davison, Stokes Jennings and Hayden Atkinson all poured in seven points each to lead the Tigers in scoring.
Darius Williams, Josh Jolly and Michael Campbell both finished with six points each while Jeremy Purdie had four. Demonte Jenkins and Harrison Hughes both tallied three points each while Adam Holmes added two points.
TRM led Flomaton 17-6 after one quarter of play and 31-9 at the half after outscoring the Hurricanes 14-3 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, TRM built a 43-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter after taking a 12-8 advantage in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Hurricanes outscored the Tigers 14-8.

TRM varsity 74, FHS 42
Only leading 25-15 at the half, TRM’s varsity Tigers blew by the Hurricanes in the second half as they outscored FHS 49-27 to claim a 74-42 win.
TRM led FHS 17-9 after one quarter and edged out the Hurricanes 8-6 in the second quarter to hold a 25-15 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, TRM’s offense caught fire as they used a 25-11 run to build a 50-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, TRM closed out the game on a 24-16 run to get the win by 32 points.
TRM had nine players score in the win with Chardian Johnson leading the way with 20 points. Carlos Thomas and Ahmaud Taylor also finished in double figures as they each tallied 10 points.
Brooks Brown finished with nine points, Trae Walker and Kellyn Winn had eight points each, Austin Holmes had four points, Tamerick Jenkins had three, and Noah Purdie chipped in two points.

FHS 51, TRM Lady Tigers 30
Flomaton’s Lady Hurricanes kept up their recent dominance over TRM’s Lady Tigers Tuesday as they downed TRM 51-30.
FHS led TRM 10-8 after one quarter and 24-16 at the half. In the third, FHS used a 15-6 run to build a 17-point lead over the Tigers, 39-22, heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, FHS outscored TRM 12-8 to claim the win by 21 points.
Mekiah Williams led the Lady Tigers with 13 points while Morgan Longmire added six.
Emonea Curry chipped in three points while Steely Ruzic, Kyla Bell, Akilah Brazile and Tiana Stallworth all had two points each.
