TRM basketball plays at Hillcrest and Andalusia

With their regular seasons coming to a close in the next few days, the T.R. Miller basketball teams traveled to Hillcrest and Andalusia Friday and Saturday for their final road games of the regular season.
In Evergreen Friday night, all three TRM teams saw losses. On Saturday in Andalusia, T.R. Miller’s Lady Tigers and varsity Tigers claimed wins while the B-team lost.
Against the Jaguars of Hillcrest Friday, TRM’s B-team lost 51-34 to fall to 5-9 overall this season. In girl’s action, TRM lost 42-34 to fall to 13-10 overall and finish 3-1 in area play. The loss was the Lady Tigers’ third straight loss.
In varsity action, TRM lost 72-50 to the No. 8-ranked team in class 3A to drop to 13-7 overall and finish 3-1 in area play as well.
With the area losses, both the Lady Tigers and varsity Tigers tied with Hillcrest in the area standings and the regular season area title and the host site of the area tournament will now be decided by a coin flip.
The flip of the coin is scheduled to take place Wednesday at TRM. The winner of the coin flip will claim the No. 1 spot in the area and will host the area tournament.
Saturday in Andalusia, TRM’s B-team lost 38-27 to suffer their second straight loss and drop to 5-10 overall.
The Lady Tigers ended their losing streak with a 29-25 win to improve to 14-10 overall. In varsity boy’s action, TRM won 65-62 to move to 14-7 overall this season.
TRM was scheduled to host Georgiana Tuesday night and will close out their regular season with a home game against W.S. Neal Friday night in Brewton.

Hillcrest 51, TRM B-team 34
TRM’s B-team suffered a 17-point loss to Hillcrest Friday night in Evergreen.
TRM trailed Hillcrest 12-7 after one quarter and 25-15 at the half. Hillcrest took a 41-22 lead over TRM after three quarters before the Tigers ended the game on a 12-10 run in the fourth quarter.
Michael Campbell led TRM with 11 points while Joshua Jolly had eight and Stokes Jennings chipped in seven.

Hillcrest 42, TRM Lady Tigers 34
Mekiah Williams’ 21 points was not enough for TRM’s Lady Tigers Friday as Hillcrest used an 13-5 run in the second quarter to down the Lady Tigers by eight points, 42-34.
TRM led Hillcrest 11-9 after one quarter, but Hillcrest’s run in the second quarter gave the Lady Jaguars a 22-16 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Hillcrest edged TRM 9-8 to take a 31-24 lead. In the fourth, Hillcrest held an 11-10 advantage to get the win by eight.
Along with Williams’ 21 points, Steely Ruzic finished with eight and Shae Nicholson had three. Kyla Bell chipped in two points.

Hillcrest 72, TRM varsity 50
After leading Hillcrest 15-12 after one quarter, TRM’s varsity Tigers were outscored 60-35 the remaining three quarters to suffer a 22-point loss to the Jaguars. TRM was outscored 42-28 in the second half by Hillcrest after trailing 30-22 at the half.
Chardian Johnson led the Tigers in the loss with 19 points while Kellyn Winn had 16 and Trae Walker had 11.

Andalusia 38, TRM B-team 27
TRM’s B-team suffered their second loss in as many days Saturday in Andalusia as the Bulldogs handed the Tigers a 38-27 loss.
The two teams played a close first half before Andalusia used a 14-3 run in the third quarter to propel them to the win.
After a 7-all tie in the first quarter, Andalusia held an 11-8 lead at the half. The 14-3 run for Andalusia in the third quarter gave the Bulldogs a 25-11 lead heading into the fourth. In the fourth, TRM ended the game on a 16-13 run.
Campbell led with seven points and Jennings chipped in five points.

TRM Lady Tigers 29, Andalusia 25
With the game tied at 14-all at the half, TRM’s Lady Tigers outscored Andalusia 15-11 in the second half to claim a 29-25, four-point win.
Both teams scored eight points in the first quarter and six points in the second quarter to go into the half tied at 14. TRM used an 8-6 run in the third quarter and a 7-5 run in the fourth to get the win by four points.
Ruzic and Bell led with seven points each while Williams and Nicholson tallied six points each. Morgan Longmire chipped in three points.

TRM varsity Tigers 65, Andalusia 62
TRM rallied in the fourth quarter Saturday to down the Bulldogs of AHS 65-62.
TRM trailed Andalusia 46-42 after three quarters, but rallied with a 23-16 run in the fourth to get the win by three points.
TRM led 13-10 after one quarter and 21-19 at the half before being outscored 27-21 in the third quarter.
Johnson led TRM with 29 points while Walker finished with 13 and Winn added 10.
