UMS-Wright uses big first half to cruise to area tourney championship over WSN

In the class 4A area 1 tournament championship game Wednesday night in Mobile, No. 3-ranked UMS-Wright throttled the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles 67-17 to claim the tournament championship.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 49-2 lead over WSN at the half after they outscored the Lady Eagles 24-2 in the first quarter and 25-0 in the second half.
In the second half, the game was a lot closer as UMS edged out the Lady Eagles 18-15.
UMS-Wright outscored WSN 11-10 in the third quarter to take a 60-12 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, UMS edged out WSN 7-5 to claim the win by 50 points.
KeKe Floyd scored all 17 points for the Eagles,
Both WSN and UMS-Wright will play in the sub-regional round of the state playoffs. WSN will travel to the Clarke County-Monroe County winner to begin the playoffs while UMS-Wright will get the loser of the class 4A area 3 championship game.
With a win in the sub-regional round, WSN will advance to the South Regionals in Dothan.
The Lady Eagles fell to 9-16 overall with the loss while UMS-Wright improved to 21-9.
