Hosting and playing in the class 3A area 2 tournament championship games Saturday against Hillcrest, one T.R. Miller basketball team captured the championship while another took the area runner-up spot.
The TRM Lady Tigers claimed their tournament championship with a come-from-behind win over Hillcrest in overtime. The Lady Tigers earned a 33-32 win over the Lady Jaguars. The win moved the Lady Tigers to 17-10 overall and moved to the sub-regional round of the playoffs.
TRM was to host Abbeville Monday night in Brewton for the right to win and clinch a berth in the South Regionals.
In boy’s action, TRM was blown out by Hillcrest 78-38 to fall to 15-9 overall. With the loss, TRM was scheduled to travel to Pike County for their sub-regional game.

TRM Lady Tigers 33, Hillcrest 32 (OT)
Down 21-18 after three quarters of play, TRM’s Lady Tigers outscored Hillcrest 12-9 in the fourth quarter and 3-2 in the overtime period to claim a 33-32 win and take the area tournament championship.
Hillcrest led TRM for the majority of the game as they held an 8-4 lead after one quarter and a 14-11 lead at the half. In the third quarter, both teams scored seven points each as TRM trailed the Lady Jaguars 21-18 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, TRM rallied with a 12-9 run to tie the game at 30-all and force overtime. In OT, TRM edged out the Lady Tigers 3-2 to claim the one-point championship win.
Mekiah Williams led the Lady Tigers with 15 points while Shae Nicholson added 10 points and Steely Ruzic had eight points.

Hillcrest 78, TRM varsity 38
Hillcrest dominated TRM’s varsity Tigers from start to finish Saturday in the class 3A area 2 championship game as they cruised to a 40-point win over the Tigers by a score of 78-38.
The Jaguars led TRM 17-8 after one quarter and 40-18 at the half following a 23-10 advantage in the second quarter.
In the third, Hillcrest outscored TRM 18-12 to increase their lead to 58-30 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, with Hillcrest already leading the Tigers by 28 points, the Jaguars ended the game on a 20-8 run to grab the big championship win.
Chardian Johnson led the Tigers with 16 points while Trae Walker had 11. Ahmaud Taylor had four points, Tamerick Jenkins had three, Austin Holmes had two points and Markail Mitchell had two points.
