Abbeville ends season for TRM’s Lady Tigers

T.R. Miller’s Lady Tigers basketball team saw their season come to an end Monday night at home as they took a 58-43 loss to the Abbeville Lady Yellow Jackets in the sub-regional round of the AHSAA state basketball playoffs. The loss finished TRM with a 17-11 overall record.
Abbeville used four different 6-0 runs to propel them to the 15-point win.
TRM led the game 1-0 over Abbeville at the 7:32 mark before Abbeville used their first 6-0 run to build a 6-1 lead with 6:40 left in the first quarter.
Abbeville went on to lead TRM 18-13 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Abbeville led TRM 27-19 with 4:22 left in the half before TRM closed the lead to 27-21 with 3:27 left.
From there, Abbeville used another 6-0 run to build a 33-21 lead with 49 seconds left before the half. Abbeville went on to outscore TRM 15-10 in the quarter to lead the Lady Tigers 33-23 at the half.
TRM rallied in the third quarter as they outscored Abbeville 11-8 in the quarter to cut the lead to 41-34 heading into the fourth quarter.
After a quick basket by Morgan Longmire to start the fourth quarter, TRM cut Abbeville’s lead to 41-36 with 7:55 left in the game.
From there, Abbeville used their third 6-0 run to build a 47-36 lead with 6:35 left in the game.
TRM would get as close as 47-41 with 4:28 left in the game and trailed 52-43 with 2:48 left to play.
From there, Abbeville’s final 6-0 run came to close out the game as they went on to win 58-43.
Mekiah Williams led TRM with 17 points while Kyla Bell added 11. Steely Ruzic and Longmire had five points each while Emonae Curry had three and Tiana Stallworth had two points in the loss.
TRM was 15-for-23 from the free throw line while the Yellow Jackets were 16-for-20.
TRM’s 17 wins this season were eight more than they had in the last two seasons combined. Last year, TRM went 5-19 and was 4-18 the year before.
