CCHS rallies to defeat WSN varsity boys basketball in sub-regionals

W.S. Neal’s varsity boys basketball team’s dream season came to a heartbreaking loss Tuesday night at home as Clarke County rallied to defeat the Eagles 40-36 in the sub-regional round of the AHSAA state playoffs.
Leading CCHS by six points, 30-24, heading into the fourth quarter, WSN was outscored 16-6 by the Bulldogs to take the loss by four point.
The two teams played to a 12-all tie after one quarter of play before WSN took a 22-18 lead at the half after outscoring the Bulldogs 10-6 in the second quarter.
WSN increased their lead to 30-24 after three quarters as they held an 8-6 advantage in the third quarter.
A couple key stats that could point to the loss for the Eagles was shooting 5-for-19 from the free throw line and committing 20 turnovers in the loss.
Also, DJ Hodges and Tyshawn Davis got into foul trouble early with Hodges fouling out to start the fourth quarter.
Davis led WSN in the loss with 10 points, four rebounds, six assists, three steals and four blocks.
Treylon Watson added seven points, three rebounds and two assists while Andre Womack had six points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Troy Lewis added five points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Dalton Shell contributed three points, two rebounds and one steal while Jacobey Hawthorne had two points and one steal.
Darius Tolbert finished with two points and two rebounds.
JT Gantt had six rebounds and one steal while Hodges had four rebounds. Brad Martin added three rebounds and two assists in the loss for the Eagles of East Brewton.
The loss ended WSN’s season with a 14-11 record. The 14 wins was one shy of WSN’s combined win total of 15 wins over the past four seasons.
